Carmandi has grown up around the stables and learned everything she knows about bird riding from Jinxi. She appreciates his fresh and honest perspective and looks up to him. While she loves and respects her real brother, he is so busy with training and learning to be the next king, he barely has had time to spend with her anymore. He is always off and away, or neck deep in studies. Carmandi has found a surrogate brother in Jinxi and can often be found hiding out in the stables just to talk or take a breather.
Jinxi is like a mentor to Carmandi and often more of an older brother than her actual older brother. While he keeps things professional, Jinxi is also not afraid to be honest and cordial with the princess when needed. Being one of three in the castle who knows about Carmandi's secret escapades around the kingdom, Jinxi is able to keep her secret, but maintains the belief that she should be honest and come clean to her family.
“A truly unexpected individual. I would have never found myself becoming.. Attached to someone who’s as immature, no, youthful as Eyona. She’s naïve, impulsive, and too open. But, that’s what makes Eyona herself. And.. I love her for that. I love her carefree demeanor and her social personality. She’s different, I will never find anyone else like her. I’m grateful she’s in my life.”
"My closest friend and the one who knows me better than any one else. Eyona truly is my soul-sister. She always reminds me to keep doing the right and kind thing, even if I feel weary and want to quit. It's worth it in the end and she always reminds me of that. She supports me so much and I can't even imagine where I would be without her. She is the greatest Do anyone could ever ask for. I know it was Elune's will that we find each other."
Nealani is extremely close to Eyona and sees her as a sister of sorts. She confides in Eyona and is able to tell her things she cannot talk about with anyone else. She is able to talk about her struggles as a priest, her struggles with growing up, and general struggles, without judgement or skepticism. Nea also enjoys being able to provide the same peace to Eyona.
"Nealani is a most beautiful soul and I am thankful we travel the same path. While we study different areas and we have different interests, we have always connected in a way that can only happen between sisters. We understand each other in such beautiful ways and it is a refreshing connection that is rare in this darkened world. I do not take our friendship for granted."
Eyona has known Nealani for a long time and has been her mentor ever since Nea was a novice priest. Each has helped the other grow and step into her potential. They can talk about the things they struggle with emotionally, that others might not understand and Eyona is beyond grateful for this. It was Nea who believed in her animal sanctuary and Nea who helped to heal the most injured animals. Eyona is proud to call such a kind soul, her friend and sister.
"The humans sometimes write us off as tree-hugging losers who can't let go of the past and, I hate to say it, but Eyona and others like her only make that stereotype worse. But she's a nice person and she's only ever been nice to me, so I can't say that much bad about her. I've known her for decades and yet, I don't really know her. As long as she respects me, i will respect her."
Len has never really gotten to know Eyona, despite seeing her around and having many interactions with her. They honestly would never have crossed paths if they did not have Nealani in common. He finds her very nice and caring, but perhaps a little TOO much. He feels she is a bit too...radical on the peace-front and that she can be way too passive. He sometimes sees her as a doormat sort of person who could get taken advantage of easily. He has never taken advantage of her, or try to, nor would he want to, but he feels that she could easily fall for the wrong thing with the right words. He sees her passive and peaceful nature as weakness (and not as control and wisdom).
"Lenadis is a kind soul and it shows in his hidden actions.. but I am not fond of him. He is quite spiritually immature. I am sure he thinks I'm just some tree-hugging activist, and well... he isn't exactly wrong, but that is just a small part of who I am. I cannot blame him, though. That is the only part of me he's ever really seen. He does not quite understand who he is yet, and that is apparent, and it is why I am patient with him. My biggest issue with Lenadis is that he has some really rather... bad habits and, with as much as he hangs around her, I don't want that badly affecting my Nealani."
Eyona typically does not mingle with Len. She finds him a bit too brash and brazen for her tastes. She is not a quiet and gentle little wallflower, and Len understands this, but he does still see her as quite passive and elusive. She prefers, however, to see it as wisdom and picking the right battles.
"I hate him and I wish he'd die-- just kidding. Aeleon is one of the only people who understands me. Right from the start, we were close and I knew we were more than just cousins, we were legitimate brothers. He is an total f---ing idiot, and I still love him."
Lenadis grew up wanting to follow Aeleon around and impress him. While not terribly far apart in age, Len was young enough to look up to his cousin. Len thinks Aeleon is brave and he admires his honesty. They have similar goofy, inappropriate, and sometimes vapid sense of humor. Len does think Aeleon is an absolute idiot in some ways (drugs use, drinking and partying heavy, being so closeminded and xenophobic) but he easily looks past these things because he knows Aeleon has a good heart underneath it all.. he's just too focused on his reputation to show it.
"He's a little ----head, but he's my ----head. "
Aeleon has always seen Lenadis as a little brother, as opposed to just a cousin. While he'd never admit it, he is very fond of Len and proud to be able to consider him a brother. He also finds Len's ability to charm and work a room quite amazing and he wishes he could do the same (but he would never, EVER, EVER admit that in a million eons). Aeleon thinks Len can be too soft sometimes though, and that Len could afford to 'loosen up' a bit.
"He's the most genuine and honest man. He puts on this tough "Ohh I don't care" act, but he's got a heart made of gold. I wish he'd open up more. There's always a part of him that's hidden away. Sometimes I wonder..."
Lenadis is a huge dork underneath his hardcore, 'bad boy' exterior and Nea can see this from the start. As children they met and she easily developed a crush on him. Even as a teen, she felt that they bring out the best (and worst :P) of each other and that they were meant to be (cue You Belong With Me playing muffled in the background). But she never told him and seeing him flirt with and date other girls, she could tell he did not feel that same romantic way for her. After this, she forces herself to ignore the feelings and focus on being Len's best friend. She feels he is a bit brash and too honest sometimes, but he's also honorable and noble.
"She's the kindest, most positive person I know. I'd be dead meat without her... seriously. I just wish she'd deal with anxieties about flying. Or her anxiety in general. Life would be a lot easier."
Lenadis is grateful to have Nea in his life. The obvious reason being that she can heal him... but that's only on the surface. He appreciates everything she does for him, even the small and silly things. He highly values her opinions and feels she is extremely book-smart. As a kid, he actually returned Nea's feelings, but completely ignored them for fear of ruining his reputation. it was bad enough to be seen hanging out with the weird, quiet, 'good girl'... he'd never hear the end of it from his cousin and friends if he actually revealed his true feelings. After decades of internalizing his feelings, he has conned himself into dating other girls and seeing Nea only as a friend. He feels she is a bit too soft and tame sometimes.. he wishes she would take initiative and just dive in head-first with some things.
