You rapidly blink your eyes, unsure of what you're seeing. Did that treasure chest just....turn into a person? The self-proclaimed Mimi looks at you oddly, like she can't quite tell what the matter is. She taps a gloved finger on her cheek a couple times before a lightbulb goes off above her head.
"Oh, I got it now! You're like, new-new aren't you! Bet you've never seen a Mimikai in your entire life. Well don't you worry, you got your very own head of the welcomin' committee right here!" She points her thumb at her chest, seeming to be very proud of a title that you might assume is also self-proclaimed. But, she seems friendly enough, so you nod your head. It's the truth, you have no idea what a Mimikai is!
It doesn't take long before Mimi reaches out to grab your wrist, and starts dragging you along that old dirt road.
"Come on, I can tell you everythin' you need to know before we get to the Outpost!"

Yeah, that chest is definitely is looking at you. Any notion of self-preservation quickly goes out the window as you decide to ignore the warning signs, reaching out to the treasure chest that blocks your path. As soon as your fingertips touch the wooden planks of the chest-
Eek! You suddenly find yourself looking down certain doom, in the form of too many sharp teeth and eyes that are now definitely there. You stumble back a few steps, losing your footing and finding yourself sitting back down on the path. The chest blinks over at you, and it almost feels like they're just as startled as you are.
"Oi! What are you doing, disturbing a slumberin' creature like that? Don't you know there's all sorts of beasties just waitin' to chomp your head off?"
The stunned look on your face probably says it all. Turns out this chest is not the head-chomping beastie that they're speaking of. Does that mean there's even scarier things out there than a chest who just suddenly come to life? The woodgrain of the chest starts to shift, forming a pair of furrowed brows as the chest's groggy state dissipates, and they let out a gasp.
"Oh, you're not from around here, are you! Hold on, let me just-" There's a puff of smoke and you start to cough, using your hand to try and wave it away, when the same voice speaks up once more.
"Hi, I'm Mimi!"
You find yourself on a dusty and well-traveled road, where even the overgrown plants have decided it's not worth trying to overtake things. A crooked and weathered sign points to a spot further along the path, and you can see the words 'Outpost' carved into the wood. You're hopefully lost, but maybe someone at this outpost might be able to help?
You continue along the path, and as you do so, you start seeing odd marks through the dirt. Similar footprints to your own, yes, but what are these other ones? Paws, claws, things you can't recognize? It sends a shiver down your spine. Still, as lost as you started out, you keep going down your path. You can swear you hear the sound of....snoring? Hoping to maybe have found someone to ask a question about your whereabouts, you break out into a run and then- you trip.
And it hurts. Quite a bit, in fact. Cursing your clumsiness you look over to see what most assuredly scuffed your shoe.
A....treasure chest? Why would someone place a treasure chest on an old dirt path like this?
You decide to get to your feet, dusting yourself off, and take a closer look at the chest.
..........why do you get the feeling the chest is looking at you?

Hey there everyone! I just wanted to give a small apology to everyone waiting on art-- I've been a bit swarmed with work (I do marketing/graphic design so black friday prep work has been INSANE) and struggling with a bit of health stuff (low energy levels and fatigue).
