question about armor & dnd.

NOT SO MUCH A QUESTION OF MECHANICS— but a question about how you guys design your characters that are more armored than not! I know with like scale mail, it could just be underneath clothing. But I’m struggling with Astraeus because visualizing more traditional fantasy armor has never been my forte.

So do you guys stick to more traditional designs like armor for your paladins & clerics, etc. Or do you “rule of cool” it and just design them as you want & just say they’re wearing armor & just deal with the mechanics when you’re playing?

Also….. this is a pass to show off your D&D characters bcuz I want to see them 🥺

im late but I just rule of cool and look at inspo from places that I enjoy the armor designs of; if final fantasy can make crazy ass designs and get money for it why shouldnt I lmao

absolutely the latter, i think this man is supposed to be wearing scale mail but https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/1012528169552711737/1068047478290657301/image.png

OOOO KRUL THEY LOOK SOOO GOOD!! rule of cool for them was a good choice KCJDKKD

thank u <3 my bloodhunter son deserves utmost fashion

I honestly am struggling rn with the same issue for my cleric character T_T so I only recently doodled a simple armor design, i think when it comes to dnd armor it really depends on what you prefer i don't think there's any set rules per say, also depends on class i guess cuz clerics can use heavy or light armor. I definitely am a more realistic armor kind of person cuz I wanna make it nice and that it could actually be used but since it's just a game and it's your oc there's nothing bad with making it more fantasy like ^^ im pretty sure her armor isnt 100 per cent accurate ofc but I can see it actually being used.

If you're struggling rn you can try to make various designs of a lighter armor idk if you want a heavy armor or not but you can figure out the other layers as you go I usually look at pinterest for inspo or I just go look up clerics/paladins and such for inspiration or for at least a draft of an idea I can develop later

I'm not really sure about her design 100 per cent since i just started playing recently and i drafted a design for her a while ago so I made a simple armor design for now until i decide to change it https://toyhou.se/20213202.torgga-tink-battlehammer

YEAH! I GENERALLY SAY: fuck it i do what i want when designing my characters-- but for some reason i've been loving the idea of having an almost true to gear character this time around. realism isn't what i'm aiming for but i know i'd like armor since he's supposed to have it as a paladin. skgjhsfgkjhdf BUT LAYERING DESIGNS AND MAKING VARIOUS DESIGNS IS SOOO SMART!! genuinely forget i can do that because i'm usually a "one and done" type of designer ksdhgsdkjh i should practic thumbnailing more though

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! THIS REALLY HELPED ME A LOT!!

and i love her!! omggg!!!

Fr xD I am lazy so I wanna get it over with but character design is hard. Especially clothes and uniforms T_T so basically do a bit of both! It helps a lot, think of armor as a shell and the chain mail and clothes as the interior, that's personally what I do :)

Thank you so much <333 glad I could help!
