Hmmm

Back to browsing through TH UFT yet AGAIN. Gonna take a thousand years to try to find that "perfect" character.

It really is hard to find an oc that isn't bland, boring, or just seems like it looks like someone else's character with slight changes.
And even if I do find something that sparks my eyes, it is either: Expensive, open / close species, dollmaker, or "Will swap this design for [[ Insert popular artist's name ]] design".
This isn't all characters btw. Only some.

Trying to find something small but also unique, along with making my brain go "Onga bonga, this character hook my interest! It is making my brain brimming with ideas! They look so creative! So stylish! Ooooh it stands out nicely! I want to try to get my hands on it!" is hard. I try to seek a character that is finally:
- One that makes easy practice
- One that I can produce more art of
- One that I can bloom a lot of ideas
- One that I can try to do most images with much ease ( To try to set said character as first page of most images )
- One that I can look forward to getting as physical items ( Plush, keychain, perler bead, fursuit, ect )
- One that I can actually have a strong connection with ( To the point that I can make them as a mascot or an additional persona )
- Someone that is unique and not overly complex.

Tell me...
How did you guys found your "perfect" character? That oc that you could really connect with and pour out the entirety of your heart onto it?

I'm trying but I have no luck.
I try to do new designs, but they don't give that right kind of "spark" ( Like I love them, but they are not at the point as "That perfect oc" ). Not to mention that they are not the kind of characters that would make it easy for me to pump out art onto them with ease.
I try browsing through TH trades, but I either find nothing or get shit out of luck on something ( Note: I avoid giveaway ocs, because I really don't want to go after a character that I may end up loving but have to heavily rely on RNG ).

I love Nymphrasis, but she isn't an easy character to draw.
I love Marsha, but I feel her design doesn't stick out enough to feel unique.
I love Kit and Popori, but I keep getting that constant feeling that something is missing. They don't feel like "That perfect OC".
I love Mao, but doing a bunch of drawings with his chained tail would be tedious.
I love Eruthea, but human(oid) designs take me a while to work with.
I love Hopini, but I realized that her design will take quite some time to work with ( As in, I would not be able to pump art of her with ease ).
I love Codex, but he is not an easy character to draw.

I have characters that I love to bits, but they don't feel like that one character I strive for. That one "perfect" oc that suits for my needs.

And no, I wouldn't ask for a custom from artists because I don't completely know what I want. I'd rather just search for a character that strikes to my FULL interest, rather than ordering a custom that I may not even be certain about.

So please, answer me.
I really do want to know how people finally get the "design that sticks and fully connected to them". How you've found that right character for you?
And no, I am not being sarcastic or anything. I truly, DEEPLY, want to know! I just want a better insight and understanding, because maybe there is something I am not doing right.

Idk if I am making sense.
Unsure if well explained or not.

Just...
Thought I've found that "perfect" character but, well... Let's just say circumstance changed. One where the option to offer OCs is not available to do. I await a response to see if I can do something. Maybe that could change and I may be able to achieve this character. Idk yet.
So I am just back to the drawing board, browsing once more.
I admittedly feel tired of browsing. It is to the point that I recognize a lot of characters. ( Even made a game for myself. Base on the character's avatar, I go "Bet it has boobs showing out as the full ref" and take a sip of my soda ( I don't do alcohol ) if I got it right. I don't find it bad. Just a lil silly thing for myself, since I see it often )

I understand if you don't read this far. It is a lot and blegh.

I don't have just one main character either my interest in characters tends to come and go, but one I'm currently interested in and have been having fun doing lots of doodles of is one of my newer mascots Gomi! I basically mixed all my favorite things (color palette, traits and such) and messed around with the design for a while, ensuring I liked what I had before finalizing them!! Also created him because I'm looking to rebrand myself in the near future since I feel like my current username isn't very marketable (but I do have a mascot for this username who I love dearly, Strat.) and such but then I figured it out! :D I used to struggle creating sonas and mascots but being able to pinpoint traits I specifically liked over the years helped me out when designing!

Bad thing though is since he's so different and small I haven't really found many styles that I feel might fit him so I've just been doodling him myself aside from some close friends of mine! But I don't necessarily consider that a bad thing!

They were created out of a whim though. I wasn't necessarily looking to create a new mascot and it was just me drawing concepts I had on a canvas. Often times when I'm actively looking to design something I struggle. It's usually when I least expect it that I'm happy with the design. Some designs take me a day to months to complete, going on and off until I get a better idea or I'm able to do the idea justice. Designing is hard, so I don't blame you for feeling tired about this extensive search (and looking for OCs in one's price range is difficult as well). I'm wishing you the best of luck and hope you find the one!!! qwq 💕💖💕💖💕

I love all my characters to bits but Mistshard takes top prize <3 honesly the only reason is because shes a pretty baby and coz my friend helped me design her as my sona haha. Literally none of my characters have more than one art piece or a bio...

I have 3 absolute main ocs! One of which i consider 'the one' based on how important to the story they are, this will be kinda long but I'll break down mine!

1. Inari i made her back in 2016 while i was getting my first college degree! She's very special to me, i based her on the rainbow effect of a prism when it splits a beam of light! She definitely gets the most attention since she reflects myself the most!

2. Orion he was made back in 2022, and honestly he was a spur of the moment idea! I was sitting with my friend watching a random lets play and seen a chimera on the screen, and my lizard brain decided i wanted to make a unique looking chimera!

3. And last but certainly not least, my stories main protagonist (shocking its not inari uwu lol) but Nicor actually started out as a joke dnd character back in 2021, a stereotypical evil bunny nothing too deep. Then i started actually trying to develop his story, and i ended up giving him the center role in my entire story!

I guess from all this, what determines a characters value to me, is the place they take in my story, its the reason i have my th folders organized the way they are! All these characters are (by comparison to the characters I've adopted) pretty simple when boiled down to basic design, and all follow an intentional common theme, white fur, 1 yellow eye >w<

QwQ although i have never had issues with being attached to characters- so its a bit hard for me to understand when people lose interest in a character, not that its bad, but just something my lizard brain cant comprehend qwq so i hope my post helped a bit, even if i can't fully understand the struggle your facing!

Ooooh i also have lil mascots that go with each of my main 3!

Inari has Prism and Quartz

Orion has Nico

Nicor has Void

These all are simple lil critters i felt are ez to draw and i would DIE TO HAVE PLUSHIES OF EEEEEEE (lol qwq one day maybe)

I don't actually really have just one! My interests come and go, so my desire for an OC does the same. That's one of the reason why I have so many!
Sometimes I'm just not attached to any single character, as well.

But I do want to chime in and say, some closed/open species allow you to remove the design from the species -- and if its the chain tail thats getting you down, you can always give them a different kind of tail, or simplify the chains, etc! You don't have to keep everything the exact same -- even with characters you receive from others!

And lastly, you could always try browsing other sites as well. Im certain there's some people who aren't on TH who are posting good designs. Though, I also 100% understand just how tiring browsing can be. I was in a similar position a while ago.

I'd say my "perfect oc" would be Grimms! I made him on a whim when I wanted an avatar for amino, but since then he's been my most precious guy :)

he's both complex and simple! he has many small details, but half of them (mainly ones for his face) are optional. I think it helps that he's from a special interest fandom, because I find him to be one of the easiest ocs to draw :)

Honestly, I created my "perfect oc" ^^" (it's Kusari). Hmmm... It took me 2 days, and like you I wanted a simple oc I could draw easly. So, I didn't ad a lot of details, but aded the one I wanted '^' It was during 2022's Halloween, I guess I got the inspiration at the good time ^^ You can try Alter ego ? Like, doing an oc you like with a simple design ? maybe it could help you to create THE oc ^^" Hope it could help you :3
