Do you feel like AI adopts has affected OC sales?

19 Votes Yes for sure
9 Votes Yes its affected it but the community is still strong and people are buying often
12 Votes Maybe? I'm not 100% sure
7 Votes Not really, only certain niches/genres (primarily human anime adopts)
2 Votes Not really

I've been wondering about this lately...

Based on what you've seen, do you feel like AI adoptables has been cutting down business for OC adoptable artists?

Or do you feel like adoptables are still going strong? Would love to see peoples thoughts on this since I haven't been buying as actively for a while.

Last time I checked DA, the AI adopts weren't doing too well and properly made adopts were still thriving

Yeah I feel like quality adopts are still selling decently well I do wonder how adopts made on public bases and such are faring

I think I still see them sell quite successfully

I personally don’t go to them as much anymore

why do you feel that is? (that you don't go to them anymore I mean)

I’m not sure

Like I go to pre-made base adopts from favourite artists and such

But I think for me, I get inspired by character ideas if it’s an original base if that makes sense?

I get you the silhouettes are often more distinct and have stronger character than bases (with some exceptions)

Personally, I see a lot of AI generated characters when looking on Etsy (and they always have a few of the same character for sale funny enough). But I always see people buying characters from actual creators rather than the people generating those images and selling them. Though I have seen a recent influx of people making AI characters and claiming the art.

(hopefully this is understandable, I’m pretty tired from waking up early ^^’)

Etsy huh?? Wild, definitely not a place I'd buy adopts!

Yeah, me neither! Haha

I've seen lot of perfectly good adopt go unsold cause ai is cheaper

do you find that this is specific to certain genres of adoptable or all genres?

all to be honest but i think its worse for adoption makers

Yes. Since Ai adopts became an issue my adopt sales have dropped by almost 90%. It has caused a lot of financial stress and worry for many adopt artist. I have encountered a lot of people with the mindset of ' why pay 30 for an adopt I can make better for free. ' It is quite disheartening, putting so much effort into your work, only to have people prefer an AI adopt instead.

I'm sorry to hear it :( hopefully the court cases currently going against it yield some protections for artists and disband the programs

My adopts don't sell at all any they're like $10 each. Also my ex (thank goodness it's an ex now) says he has a "AI adoptable addiction" because "they're so much cheaper than normal art" as if there's not hundreds of artists selling adopts and YCHs for under $15... sadly AI is an issue.

It really really sucks :/ The adoptable community was one of the great strongholds for a monetary ecosystem that wasn't harnessable by companies like amazon and the like
