like toyhou.se posts that have the tileset watermark

it's way too busy for me to focus on art and makes it hard to do comms and just also try to enjoy the drawing q_q

I personally do it for two reasons. I dealt with a good deal of art theft in the past, including tracing, and also I don't use toyhouse as a social media so my characters aren't really there for other people and are mostly only there for me to have a space to work on and develop them, and having archive of all of the art I have of them in one place for MY OWN benefit, so I have all of my images set to thumbnail only for anyone who's unauthorized, and I have a good sized watermark for authorized users. I will authorize somebody if I'm doing something like getting a commission or authorizing a character, but as soon as whatever I authorized them for is over, I take them off of my authorization list immediately.

i started doing it after one of my sonas was stolen and resold on amino--even though the image had a watermark since it wasnt tiled they just cropped it out and stole the images that had less obvious watermarks ;;

normally if i commission someone to draw one of my ocs ill auth them so that they dont see it, and i typically try to make sure people i commission are trustworthy so i have had no issues with stealing since i started using the tiled watermarks

pretty sure its to prevent AI img sweeping, or just general theft and tracing ofc
some are way more intense about it than others I've noticed too, I'm not sure why so hardcore though

and a regular watermark or two wouldnt suffice? the tiled ones are just so busy and if someone really wanted to steal the art they could edit it with enough skill and practice

this has been going on since before ai

not in like a rude way just like a i don't understand why such an extreme length that also takes away from being able to enjoy the artwork ;w;

I guess some people are more scared than others? I think a tiled wm with some space inbetween would be fine, with a light opacity cover ofc to allow the viewer to see. Of course you could edit it out, but the harder it might be to see, the harder the editing is going to be, which helps people who just want a quick image to look away I'd assume?? People aren't gonna worry too much about a signature when AI plugging, p sure that can be wiped off or distorted to the point of illegibility. When it comes to a hefty tiled watermark, I'd ASSUME it's more difficult to scrape that off with the img compiler due to opacity or disruptability.

TLDR: I think it comes down to convenience of img sourcing/tracing rather than being solid on one img and working super hard to edit wm/signatures out. That's disregarding people who have a certain artist they've decided to target though, can't say much about people who are concrete on stealing a single person's art for whatever reason.

It has been going on before AI, and I can't really speak for them or anyone because I'm not them, but art theft and AI img sweeping have gone up (as far as I know), and I think people might be really scared of having their work plugged in and then their hard work gets ripped off.

I mean, the whole point of stealing art is not to have to use skill and practice. With enough skill and practice at that point you could just make your own art, but that's not what art thieves want. They want that instant gratification rather than to actually put effort into creating something with their own hands.
