Livian Species Guide

Primary species

The ones the focus will be on. Members of this species and the entire species as a grouping will have a fairly large influence on the story.

Livian Demons -- X X X
My current focus, probably won't change the focus at this point. Humanoid creatures that were created rather than evolved. Their inexperience has led them to make quite a few enemies and friends in the world, but especially now they're pushing back against all the threats presented to them they couldn't resolve in the past.

Dragons -- X
Not literal feral dragons, they resemble huge bulking scaly humanoids. They were created in a spiritual purge that created hybrids of different creatures, them being reptiles and humans, and technically speaking aren't purely reptiles.

Drakes
Drake is a very loose term as it signifies any hybrid that was created during the spiritual purge that merged different species together. Dragons and Elsae Ardu are drakes too, as are all beast people. Drakes don't have to have a reptilian part in their species makeup, they can be hybrids between a dog and a cat, to give a random example.

Beast people -- X X
Beast people go far and wide, occurring in all sorts of species, but for a general definition these are drakes that possess part of the human gene. In terms of appearance, most of these can stand up, but again there's variety. Sentience ranges from 'mildly more inclined to group behaviour than a regular cat' to 'just finished conceptualising the theory of relativity'.

Gods -- X X
Or in other words mortals who had either the luck of being born with and being capable of training in a very powerful type of magic that allows the mind to create, or who worked hard to gain these powers. While there are no gods who existed since the dawn of the universe, these individuals still hold an unimaginable amount of power over the people they claim as theirs.

Angels
Though currently with a limited role, these winged humans are the inhabitants of the city of Heaven. Initially very closed off and conservative, the recent agreement to allow demons inside its wall and its army to band together against the rising threat of Hell has loosened up the ideals of some angel individuals and prompted them to see what else is out there.

The Magi beasts
Are they even a real species? Their effects sure are real regardless of where they came from and who, or what, created them.

Souls -- X X
While not literal beings, they present living creatures' sentience in a physical form. They will for sure be explored later on.

Secondary species

These species exist in the world and have their own history, but they don't necessarily have a huge role in the story. At most, a few characters will appear but species itself won't be addressed very extensively, though it may have a smaller role still.

Familiars -- X X
Small magical spirits who used to be given to the most loyal of followers of a god, but who nowadays just spawn in nature without anyone being sure why.

Humans
Sealed away in their monasteries and walled cities, humans tend to be more closed off of the world than anyone else. Just like their angel counterparts, they are discouraged to travel and interfere with other species, making them a rare sight.

Elves -- X
The only one of the three human races that is actually open to other cultures and species, albeit only to allow trade and education to seep through their closed borders. Living on an island without sufficient deep sea ship technology, they hope to learn techniques from the visiting traders to explore the rest of the world on their own.

True elves -- X
Everybody knows that humans aren't elves. They're humans. When you say the word 'elf', it's more likely that the person will imagine a sentient gorilla than a skinny human with pointed ears, if they know the term elf at all.

Elsea Ardu -- X X
One of the creatures who got formed after one of the local pulses of magical energy as an aftermath to the spiritual purge, these bird based beast people got merged with demons through two different aftershocks. Not many of the resulting creatures were genetically stable enough to even survive for a second, so the ones that did have a very small pool of people to keep the species alive with.

Mirrors -- X X X
Blue demons. Everyone knows blue makes everything better. These creatures are born as a mirror to actual living Livian Demons in one of the afterlife's realms, with an ability to share their senses and a cultural ideal to attain an appearance as close as possible to their original. Livian Demons are not aware of their existence and they can't interact with each other in any way.

Harpies -- X X
One of the beast people who had a second spiritual 'purge', the second one occurring in one of the local aftershocks. The first combination was between bird and human, and the second one added more human to the mix, making these creatures look more humanoid than most beast people would.

Potential species I may add

I would really like to add these in, but I feel like they might be gimmicky if I can't fit them in anywhere. It'd take time to fit them in, and I wouldn't know how. Many of these are beast people and shouldn't be seen as their perfect 'half human, half animal' form they're often shown as, but rather a fairly beastly one.

Merpeople
Less of the beautiful giggling girly mermaids and more of the monstrous half fish people.

Centaurs
People with a horse's full body as lower body. How does it work anatomically speaking? No idea. But they might work.

Fauns
Basically humanoid goat people with a more human face. Not sure at all where they would fit in, but you may have noticed that I absolutely love the goat leg on humanoids aesthetic.

What do I do with you guys

These are species I meant to add but am having second thoughts on. They seem like an amazing thing to add and I'm excited to add them, but at the same time I have no idea how they'd ever be applied. At most they'd be mentioned once every 100 pages and that's about it, so I'd have to get a completely different focus for it to work.

The Dead. -- X
Name only temporary. These are one of the big reasons why Tomius is seem as an unjust god; to avoid Hell from getting more resources, he tends to lay curses upon those he deems deserving of their sin count, making them immortal and giving them living rot. The sun banishes them to the north, or in most cases, deep into the ocean.

The Aquatic Dead. -- X X X
Name even more temporary. Sometimes, after living in the ocean for years, the offer of a god to transform your rotting body into something more suitable to live with underwater in exchange for worship doesn't seem all that crazy anymore. The webbed toes and fingers are the most fun part.

Werewolves
Yeah, the cliché. I know. But it seems like a fitting step for a wolf god to give his most loyal followers either a panic form they can assume when they are in danger, or a chance for them to get a taste of life as the creatures they regard with such importance and fascination. Might be far too gimmicky.

Vampires.
There's our dichotomy. The regular vampires who need a supplement of blood in their meals, with some extra strength and altered thought processes but aside from that no real differences. I used to love these as a kid, but at this point the only mention of vampirism you may get would be of an old legend. I thought of making the entire thing extinct except for one single person, but I don't know. If anything, vampirism is only a means to getting Nathan's story started. So until then, I have no idea what to do with them.

I FORGOT ABOUT HARAMBE AND NOW IM DEAD

Same though

Still too many faves and I cry, I should start to develop him more

You should sjdkasljad

All of these are so neat! I love the concepts of the Dead/Aquatic Dead, but I think my favorite race overall is Beast people!

Thank you very much! If you like the Aquatic Dead, you should check out my gal Vohgan's profile. On there there's a section explaining how they came to be and what exactly they are :D

What do you like about the Beast people? <:

I love the variation they have, as shown from your examples, and I really love Ayla's design! I think it's neat that they're basically more humanish drakes and that makes me infinitely more curious around the politics between them and where the law(s) draw the line between a drake and a Beast Person, because you can get a lot of good moral debates out of that.

And oh, I remember reading Vohgan's profile, but I think most of the details slipped my mind since it's been a while. >_> Lemme pop over and read real fast!

I love the dilemma Tomius faces, but I also really love Vohgan's response to it with the Mokra! Is Tomius aware of what she's done, and how does he feel about it? (Since it seems she did it more out of pity for the Mokra, rather than out of a vendetta against Tomius).
