Species Launch and Holiday Events!

Posted 6 years, 5 months ago by Broeckchen

It's finally time! The most important information is up, and while the communities will still get some polish here and there over time, I feel confident to officially launch the species now!

More events are coming up, but for now, let's focus on the most requested one: The MYO-Event! And this is where I've got a surprise for you. Because this MYO Event is an

Here is the rundown for how this is going to go:

  1. To participate, join this world, the DeviantArt Group or the Amino App. If you participate on DeviantArt or Amino, please read the rules there.
  2. Once you have done this, design a Calyptra! You get use up to 5 Lightbulbs on the design!
  3. Submit a reference sheet of your design (it has to be only ONE, please do not design more than that!) to the "AASS 2017" folder of the gallery. In the description, include what you're okay with in terms of modification and trade of the design. If you want, send me a short pm with the subject line "Adopt-A-Secret-Santa" and tell me in brief bullet points what you like and dislike in adoptable designs.
  4. After the deadline, the magic happens: I will take all the adoptables you have created and redistribute them. Every participant will get an adopt someone else created and they get to keep it! I will detail below what happens if you dislike the one you get.
  5. Even after the distribution of gifts, we're not done yet! Depending on how active the contest gets I will either put the designs up for community vote or find some judges to pick out the three best ones, whose creators will win an MYO slot each!

What happens if someone gets a design they don't like?

I will try to avoid this by paying attention to the likes and dislikes you specify in your PMs. Should you still end up with a design you don't like and the creator allowed for a trade, you may use the Trade Offer folder where you offer up the adoptable you got. You may only trade them away for other things than irl currency though! If you don't want to (or are not allowed to) trade either, you can give the design back to me and obtain 3 Lightbulbs as a little comfort. The design will then be used in the future as a prize or gift in a future event. I will not attempt to earn irl currency from it.

To avoid bad blood, I will notify people privately of their prizes and secret santas, giving them an opportunity to use me as middleman for trade or donate the design anonymously.

Participation Rules:

  • You need to provide a file of the design unwatermarked and in a resolution that it 1600 x 1600 pixels minimum. Either you upload it to Stash and note the group with the link to it (you can attach it to the likes/dislikes note), or you email me at 5696344_e6ygaONYzoidmkH.png and send me the file as attachment so I can forward it to the receiver of the gift.
  • You need to put the words "Adopt A Secret Santa 2017" on the reference sheet somewhere, well-visibly. This is so that future owners of the design will know what it's from and that it's a design not intended to be sold.
  • Putting your own name and the URL of the community you're part of for Calyptra on the sheet is not mandatory, but highly appreciated.
  • Your reference sheet needs to adhere to the Submission Rules below.
  • Be respectful when you comment on the designs of other participants! If someone doesn't want any critique, respect that wish. Insults and inflammatory behavior are a quick way to get disqualified.
  • No matter what or when you comment on this event or it's entries, you do not count as a participant until you have uploaded your design and submitted it to the gallery!
  • By participating you automatically agree to your design being given to another participant and for them to receive the rights to crosspost it to other platforms! You may exclude a few specific platforms from this if you feel especially uncomfortable about them, but doing so with some of the most popular ones (like Toyhou.se, Facebook, Tumblr and DeviantArt) would be unreasonable and cannot be asked of the person who receives the gift. If you are uncomfortable with that, do not participate! There will surely be other events in the future that are more suited to your taste!

Submission Rules:

  • On the submitted reference sheet of the design, things that need to be clearly visible must be: The shape and pattern of the wings, how they behave in a resting state, enough of the markings to have an idea about how they might wrap around the body, the hairstyle, the number of limbs and eyes.
  • The sheet must contain the hybrid form. Including the moth form is optional. Please do not include a human form, although you can offer the person who receives your design to make one for them after the fact. The human forms are where Calyptra designs can be personalised the best for the new owners' taste and sensibilities, it should be up to them how they'll look.
  • The description of your submission must include if the design may be modified (and if yes, how much) and if the design may be traded for other designs or things like art or writing.
  • In the profile, please link to the world and credit Broeckchen for the species.
  • If you have any important sensibilities or wishes for the future of the character (for example that the new owner will never have nsfw art made of them or injure them in a specific way), specify in the description. On the other end, if you receive a design with such wishes attached, please respect them! The design creators may absolutely approach me and ask for repercussions if someone ignores such wishes without their permission!
  • Keep your submissions and descriptions PG-13 and safe for work.
  • No photographs of traditional works! Scan traditional works, please, and clean them up. If you only have a smartphone for this, you can use an app like CamScan to do so.
  • If you submit traditional work or shaded your submission, provide a digitally made palette somewhere on the sheet that future artists can use for better reference.
  • Your submission must be at least flat colored and clean enough to distinguish details. Look here for an example for how scribbly it's allowed to get. Note that this is not about the inherent value of how "finished" the piece is - it's an entirely pragmatic rule. Artists who reference the sheet in the future need to be able to recognise important parts, colors and details in order to draw the character!
  • Only one submission per user! If you create another one, you will need to pick one of them to actually participate.
  • Try to keep your likes and dislikes to PM with me and out of the description of your submission. I want to avoid people actively trying to please one or two people while in the process creating a lot of stuff that no one else can enjoy, that's why the likes and dislikes shouldn't be too overt.
  • The design does not have to be Christmas themed.

People may also donate Lightbulbs to this contest to make the prize pool bigger than it is so far, donating is also detailed in the link above. Every donator will of course be featured and thanked in this bulletin here!

Deadline is December 22nd in hopes to have all of the gifts distributed and prizes awarded by Christmas Eve!

Holiday Raffles

Aside from the Secret Santa, another holiday event will be the adopt raffles with especially themed designs! There are nine designs just waiting for a lucky winner to take them in! As such, the raffles will have pretty quick turnover times/tight deadlines, but in return you don't need to make as big a contribution as for the Secret Santa! The raffles will conclude on Christmas Eve. Check back every other day if you don't want to miss any!
First up is this sweetheart:

5689824_YkE4iByzaiCJbDX.png

Her design is based on the fairy tale of the girl who sold matchboxes.

To enter her raffle, reply to the comment on this bulletin that specifies "Matchbox Raffle" with the words: "I would like to buy a matchbox!"
Winner gets to own her design to the terms set by Broeckchen (click here to read them).
Raffle concludes on Decembre 14th, 8 PM, UTC+1. Winner will be determined via RNG.
Raffle winner has been chosen! Winner is Minka_M.K from the Adopts Amino - the winner has been contacted!

Holiday Adoptables

Aside from the prizes, some special holiday adoptables are going up for sale or auction. You will have more time for those.
First up is this pair of twins:

5689819_eQJgAulEDW8mRTw.png

Based on Kai and Gerda from the fairy tale "The Snow Queen". The future owner gets the full resolution file of this reference sheet along with a second, more sketchy-styled one to clarify the position of their wings (butterfly) and their charm style (pheromones). They are a set, so additionally to following Broeckchen's terms of ownership, they may only ever be passed on together. You may co-own them with a friend, but do not split them up in sale or trade.

You can bid on them and see the countdown to deadline here. (Registering on the site is not necessary for this.)
