I saw a few folks talking about how bots were stealing peoples' characters and art for NFTs, so following in a few others' footsteps I hid all of my characters for a bit. I'm just curious if anyone knows if that's still (or actually) happening? I skimmed through the general forum thread but didn't see anything about it, so I'm trying to make sense of whether it was just hysterical rumors and/or if its over lmao

I'd really rather not have all my characters set to private so I'm hoping there's an end in sight with that issue

That’s why I slap watermarks on my OCs with usernames I use the most (mothquake and yangirekun). No one is gonna buy a bunch of pixels with someone’s usernames on them lol

I think it's mostly hysteria. Even if my ocs were minted for nft, no one's gonna buy them. You'd think people would know that nfts are generally just stolen artwork, so they'll be wasting their money anyway

I’m keeping every thing hidden until the bs blows over, generating singular access keys for a character is still a thing so I’m not too bothered but I miss looking through peoples ocs

This is a big reason I'm torn on watermarks because they can be distracting but at the same time this whole NFT theft thing is just ridiculous.

That being said I should probably work on a custom watermark instead of the default TH one...

I know DA was getting scraped hard for NFT theft but sad to see TH is too.

I've seen peoples selfies get ripped and sold as NFTs so I guess anything is possible.

Wow.....that is just.......

This really is the wild west isn't it lmao how is THAT not a human rights violation when someone's trying to sell your face???

I know I was on OpenSea the other day just skimming for my own art or art of others I recognized to report (or attempt to report...) and saw pretty much every single piece of Monster Hunter promotional/concept art posted on there. I'm honestly shocked more of these big studios haven't hammered down on these marketplace sites about their IPs being ripped. You'd think if we can rely on anything here it would be on corporations protecting their properties :/

RIGHT? you would think. Then again many of those big corps are "preventing" the theft but just minting and selling NFTs themselves so... Not really helping there.

Since this whole thing has started its honestly made me nervous to post anything at all, seems like no one is safe :c
