Hello there! I’ve decided that there are a couple of things in the freebie community that seem like an issue but barely get talked about. I will make a couple of these bulletins talking about my opinions on these subject. The comments will be open for you to share your own opinion and to share ideas for a next subject!

Now onto the actual bulletin!

What’s the problem with freebies that are DTA?

Well actually with the concept itself... there’s nothing wrong. The problem is people missunderstand the concept. What do I mean? Well freebies that are DTA are freebies you get by drawing a piece of art for the character you are trying to adopt. For the person giving away the adopt this is a way to find a good home and avoid mass claimers since it shows you actually like the character. Personally I find nothing wrong with this. Yes you may have to,draw art for a free character but that art will still belong to you so it’s technically not a payment to the person you are adopting from. Now that’s where the issue and missunderstanding comes in.

The actual problem with DTA adopts.

People have been calling their adopts DTA but instaid of asking art for of the character you’re trying to adopt, they ask art of their own characters! The problem? This is no longer a free adopt! When offering art for a character you are... Well offering something. People having been using DTA (with the wrong meaning) in the freebie tag and in the freebie forums for a while now and it’s bugging me. If you don’t want to give a character away for free don’t put it in any freebie forums or freebie tags! I know your post will get more attention but it’s extremely wrong to do. Other people selling their adopts follow the rules so why shouldn’t you?

Summary: DTA is for art of the character you are giving away, not for your own characters. Do not falsely advertise your character as ‘free’ if it’s not.

I... think that’s about it? If you think I missed something let me know! Feel free to share your opinions!

Any ideas for a next subject/problem?

Yeah it can be really frustrating! Mostly it’s people just using the freebie tag to get more people to offer and it’s really annoying!

Also don’t give them ideas to ruin wta too! XD shhhhhh

i was just thinking abt this earlier this week

if ur giving art for a character thats payment. its a trade. free doesnt mean trade. wta is when u write abt the character you would adopt so why shouldnt it be the same for dta?

Yeah exactly! That’s why I made the thread. Usually DTA is for art of the adoptable character but sadly people have been using it in the wrong context (either on purpose or on accident)

As written in the post following this, I agree with you on this topic as well. Of course, there are DTAs (Draw to adopt), but I have always seen people who put in the rules that they had to draw the adoptable shown, and who best depicted the character, won it. Now, knowing that certain people go further, nn surprises me at all, because on the one hand I expected it, people do everything to receive without giving. I am very sorry for those who ended up in these traps.
