The problem with... (freebies)

(Can not make the title long enough)

The problem with adopting freebies to get rid of them immediatly. (+freebie resellers)

So this first part is probably going to be more my opinion than a universal one so feel free to give your opinion down below.

I see this quite often. People adopting a freebie and then almost immediatly putting them in a game thread or giving them to a shelter (to gain shelter currency). You shouldn’t adopt freebies you don’t like, unless you may have a redesign idea and want to change them to your taste. However adopting characters with the intent to never use them seems to rude. I understand that you may adopt a character that you end up not liking as much as you thought or maybe it was just an impulse adopt. In that case I completely understand. It probably happens to all of us. But pls don’t adopt characters if you don’t even like them to begin with.

The things I mentioned above aren’t the worst obviously and in the end they don’t really harm anyone. But I’m gonna talk about a more extreme version of this.

People adopting freebies to sell or trade them.

I don’t think I need to explain why this bad but I will anways. It’s rude towards the person you adopted the character from. They gave it to you FOR FREE. Only adopting them to resell them later is horrible! It’s also unfair to the person you are selling it to. Because you are selling them a character that actually has no value. If you do this you are honestly a shitty person!

Exceptions:

• Redesigning a freebie and then reselling. You made a new design and that also means a new piece of art. In this case you can definitly resell (or trade) for the value of the redesign. (However you can not add the original art pieces as added value since they were free)

• Selling (or trading) after adding more art (only reselling for the value of the added art, free art you got from somebody does not count!)

• Trading for another freebie (However do not adopt characters to trade them immediatly, that’s rude. Only if you adopted the character and lost connection)

•Selling with explicit permission of the person gifting them. (In some rare cases the person gifting a character will allow it to keep its value and is allowed to be resold, I have seen this a few rare times in raffles but it doesn’t happen often) If the person gifting you a free character did not give you the permission to put the character up for sale/offer then pls don’t do that!

Let me just include a little note here--

When you are giving away freebies you should ALWAYS tag them in the transfer as freebie no value or gift that way if the person looking to buy them looks there they might question why a free character is all of the sudden being sold

Um.... I am guilty of the collecting freebies to play games--I am in another reform and learning this is something that shouldn't be done.... so I am leaving the forum games and reframing from looking at freebies (also because I don't want to be taking advantage of someone in distress---because I fell into that trap recently)

Anyways TLDR: I am trying to change from being an awful human being ^^; (If that's what people see me as anyways..) otherwise I am trying to stay out of the freebie community

Honestly don’t worry too much. The adopting freebies Just to play forum games is Just a personal pet peeve of mine and I can’t say I myself have never thought of doing it. So I do understand (I never did though, all the freebies I have entered in forum games and shelters are Just adopts I lost connection to)

I don’t think those should be reasons to call yourself a bad person ^^

Awww thank you. n_n I am just really tired of drama and crap that has gone on around stuff like that and other things.... So I decided its probably for the best anyways if I just pull out and send all the characters I am not using to someone who will (my sibling) or back into the game in to I found one that would work for me or them.

I have also done some other stupid things, that I know I shouldn't do again. (The creator didn't say anything negative to me when I did it though) I split characters into two characters if there is art in their gallery that DOES NOT look similar to the character and made it seperate... but if I am playing the games I will not be doing that again... :/

Just some things that keep me up at night ^^;

Awwww Well we all make mistakes so don’t let it keep you awake ^^

aww thank you. I will be making sure going forward that I stay away from stuff that could get me into trouble ^^;

thank you for being super nice to me <3

I had a different experience probably a year ago. I should've realized something was suspicious, but during my first character clear out (I decided to give them away for free even the ones that had some virtual currency value) - someone wanted all of them. They started selling / trading them away which was my fault for even believing that they wanted everything. I did have to step in and tell them that they couldn't sell dreamselfy characters because that's illegal. Other than that, they're still trying to get rid 80% of those characters away to this day. Like it is my fault for trusting a complete stranger, but it kind of was a slap in the face to find them immediately making sales / trade deals.

Omg that’s absolutely horrible! I hate it when people use other people’s generosity to make a profit! I had this happenening recently with a raffle. Right after I transfered the character they put it up for sale/ trade. I said I was not okay with they and they luckily transfered the character back so I could choose a new winner. But for some reason after sending the characters back they even ended up lying about what happened. It was a really weird situation.

I completely agree with you, both for this and for the previous post. But, since we are talking about freebies, I will only talk about these. So, I find it very rude to adopt a character for free and then exchange it immediately afterwards. I happened to receive a character who was part of the same page who wanted to give his freebies up for adoption. I adopted one, and he stayed with me, but this character I received in a forum... it almost hurt me. It would end up being tossed from page to page. I was a little sorry, so I gave it to a dear friend of mine, who will now redesign it, but at least I know that he will be in good hands.

I admit that I gave away a character that I had adopted, but only because, alas, I had the impulse and that's it, so I'm not an angel, I'm also a sinner, but if I had to adopt a character that I don't like and therefore to throw into the big sea, I wouldn't make it, I would have to make an effort.

Yeah I also feel bad for some freebies in the forum post. I occassionally made some redesign or added art before tossing them back in the thread since I hoped they would find a better home sooner.

And don’t worry honestly impulse adopting can happen to everyone and sometimes people can lose connection immediatly so I really won’t be mad at people who this happens to ^^

This is mostly directed to those who adopt freebies to get something else in return (and that being their only reason and not Just someone who loses connection to a character really quickly)

I have given away freebies to shelters etc myself so it would be pretty hypocritical if I started targetting everyone who accidently adopted a character on impulse only to end up not using it.

No no, of course not. To describe each person it would take a long time, and it would be yes, hypocritical qwq However, sorry to see all those characters being tossed from one boat to another. It's really nice, however, on your part to add a piece of art, also because original designs do not always entice people to keep the adoptable qwq

Yeah it’s really sad to see all those characters being tossed around I really hope some of them will find a better home eventually

Yes, also, the posts that look for unwanted characters are really useful.
Thanks to them, at least, some characters find a new home!

Yeah they are pretty useful!
