KEEPSAKE INFO & TRAITS

Posted 5 years, 2 months ago by puppypresident

since i've seen people interested in them, i've decided to re-release the keepsake information, but in updated format!

GENERAL LORE & INFO UNDER SPOILER!

Keepsakes are a creature that is summoned via concentrated magic. They are born out of metal vessels (which can range from a tin-can to an ornate brooch.) Since it's harder for something that has not been specifically made for the purpose of housing a Keepsake, the tin-can variant is more uncommon. Often Keepsakes come on the fancier side, as their vessels (known as trinkets) are made by master jewelers and goldsmiths with treated metal for enhanced conductivity of magic. They come in many shapes and sizes, some with jewels and some with delicate golden filigree.

Keepsake trinkets are generally given as gifts to a family who's just had a baby or has just moved somewhere new, with the summoned Keepsake acting as a caretaker for whatever it is. However they are also VERY commonly used by shopkeepers and individuals with large estates who need the assistance of Keepsakes to keep their livelihood in order. Keepsakes are very loyal workers, and take their jobs very seriously, be it manning the front desk, changing a diaper, or guarding an estate.

The main type of Keepsake is the Caretaker, who is small and soft, and a cordial presence. They are mostly used for social places, such as houses, shops, entertainment venues, and the like. They are smart, and quick learners, happy to do almost any job they are asked to do. They are made to be friends!

There is another type of Keepsake, who are larger and stronger, and whose magic takes form of weapons rather than convenience. These are known as Protectors, and they are summoned to, yes, protect properties. It is not uncommon to find a Protector and a Caretaker working together at, say, a bank, or a successful shop. Protectors are also known to protect entire villages and forests. These are often old, stronger ones.

Protector keepsakes are bulky, and can be anywhere from five to seven feet tall, depending on the strength of the magic that summoned them. Their tails are not cloths like their smaller counterpart, but rather long whip-like appendages ending in sharp metallic bits not unlike their horns, which are used in battle.

All Keepsakes have charms and beads which dangle from their ears, and end in cloth. These cloths can be either decorative in the case of a Caretaker, or useful in the case of a Protector. While those of a Caretaker are often simply for decoration, Protectors often write spells on the cloths in order to give them an upper hand in battle. Their charms may be actually charmed! There are quite a few possibilities. Some Protectors, though, will also wear decorative ones - but know to be careful and prepared.

Keepsakes are more or less immortal, and can live within a family for generations. It's not uncommon to find a cute Caretaker who has been a nanny for a family since their great grandmother was a babe. Despite their immortality, however, be destroyed if their Trinket is irreparably damaged. A Keepsake that takes too much damage, also, will disappear and return to their source magic inside the trinket to recuperate. The time they'll be inside depends on exactly how much damage is taken, but this can range from anywhere from a week to a month, unless outside magic is used to spur the process.

Keepsakes will generally keep their Trinket somewhere safe, so that no harm may come to the vessel by which they’re borne from, or their owners will wear them as jewelry as proof of ownership, or simply as a way to keep the item safe. Protector Keepsakes often hide, lock up, or bury theirs, unless instructed otherwise. They prefer to take no chances.

Keepsakes have little sexual dimorphism at their core as they are not inherently sexual beings. A Keepsake may choose to take the appearance of a male or female, and may choose to produce themselves genitalia, but this would be through their own volition. They cannot physically reproduce, though a Keepsake may 'adopt' a younger Keepsake to teach it how to manage itself.

UORFobb.pngCARETAKER INFORMATION UNDER SPOILER

Caretakers are small, soft, and generally friendly. They exist as shopkeeps, nannies, attendants, secretaries, and more. Generally, they are treated kindly by others, much more than a member of the family, or a friend, than a servant - but this is not the case at all times. All the same, they're hard, loyal workers, and are happy to do the best job they can at whatever they are asked to do.

Their “tails” sprout from a large bead-looking protrusion on their read end, the tail being a long decorative cloth of some sort. These cloths perform various functions such as acting as a sweep for the floors, a blanket for the children, or to keep items safe upon trips. Depending on the Caretaker, their tails may extend up to five feet, but there are some whose tails can extend up to ten feet. Any trinkets linked onto the Keepsake's cape is simply for decoration, an aesthetic choice, and often holds little to no bearing upon the rarity of the Caretaker.

Caretaker Keepsakes often have small powers, such as telekinesis, to help assist them in their day-to-day chores. They're most often happy, and enjoy living their lives how their companions see fit. Caretaker variants are most often between three and five feet tall, and are generally lithe and swift to get their work done quickly. Physically, they are softer looking, with wider hips and cute little toe-beans, and small hands. They move quickly, and generally get their work done swiftly throughout the day. Their magic is useful, but not usually particularly strong.

They are friend shaped.

PROTECTOR INFO UNDER THE SPOILER

Protectors are the stronger, more adept side of Keepsakes. They are created mainly to guard important things, be they villages, banks, or homes. They are masters are stoicism, and are more than skilled at combat, even from the get-go. They are generally non-aggressive, unless provoked, or they perceive that which they are meant to guard is being threatened.

They are often tall, ranging from five to seven feet, and generally take on an intimidating appearance to best do their job. Unlike Caretakers, they aren't always friend shaped. But maybe their heart is.... Anyway. Their tails can extend up to ten feet, and are often their main weapon in battle, along with sharp claws. The blades on their tails are always sharp (though some circumstances may dull it,) and they have very precise movements with them. Perhaps not comparable to a surgeon, but they have amazing control over their tails.

The armor plating on their body can manifest in any location, but the more armor they have (such as plating on the arms & legs, or more,) the stronger, and rarer, the Protector is. The type of metal also has meaning - brass, iron, and copper are the most common materials used in creating a Protector. Brass and Copper protectors make the best small business security, whereas Iron is most commonly used for most other big stores, banks, or things of that nature. Silver and Steel are stronger, generally used for bodyguard services. Gold is most often seen in the company of rich or noble people, and such.

Protectors have magical skill, often battle related, such as control over fire or water, kinetic blasts, and other such things. They are not as adept as human mages, but depending on the amount of magic they're fed, the stronger their prowess with magic.

More lore will be added over time!

I have a question! Would one be able to take an MYO design of these— one that’s already designed and change it to be a non-closed species design?

if that's what you'd prefer! the designs would need to be traded together if they were ever traded, though
