Housing Emergency

Posted 1 year, 10 months ago by Dskaia

Hey everybody

This is never the news I expected to write, but here goes. In summary, my partner and I, along with our roommate are being evicted from the house we were renting from my partners family due to irrational, homophobic, and impulsive decisions on their part. Since it was just family we were never legal tenants so we have no way to fight back.

They told us this a couple of days ago. They've since told us that the house is going on the market this Thursday (7/14/22) we are doing everything we can to find a place, but it gets tricky with low income young adults who have pets.

We would desperately not want to get rid of our animals, but are having to plan for the worst in case we cant find somewhere that would take us. Please, if you could even spread the word I made a Ko-fi profile for donations. My Patreon is still up but I have no clue how often I will be able to post to it.

We were only in this situation because we were promised stability here when we were looking for our own place. They moved out and promised us that this was our home, that we could get settled in and save for a new house here. Now they have their own home, and want a new one some day, so they are selling this one out from under us to partially fund a years long project they wont have the funds to finish. It's so cartoonishly incomprehensible that I would think it was a punchline. I really wish it was.

I know I am not a large creator so my reach is very limited, so even shares alone would mean the world to me. Thank you everyone for reading. I hope to be back with better news soon.

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this :( If it comes to it, try searching your area for fosters - you might be able to find one to temporarily foster your animals while you find somewhere safe for all of you. Also, there is a subreddit called legal advice that you might check out - even though you weren't legal tenants, there may be laws in your area that prevent you from being kicked out for x amount of days. (I think it might be called squatters rights or something?) And if you have any sort of queer community in the area, reach out to someone. They might have resources for finding you a place to stay.
Good luck, stay strong, and don't forget to take a break and breathe every once in a while <3

Thank you so much, the days have been very overwhelming but I am keeping my head high best I can. There are some lights at the end of the tunnel that we have to wait a bit longer to see if they are true opportunities, but I will take everything you said to mind and start searching. Thank you again, I hope you have a wonderful day <3
