Do you mean like if you own a design I've made? if that's the case then I don't have any set rules, as long as I'm still listed as a designer your free to make any changes once you own a character ^^
I do also preferer old design isn't deleted entirely, but not required

And yeah, I never delete the old designs but move them to another tab on the same profile so pf
