Aha, I definitely feel that! I've always felt that Takemiya style was one of the most influential in manga, and even though its not a style I emulate, I really admire its techniques and lovvve looking at styles similar to it! It really is a shame that she isn't more well known, despite being so important to the history of manga.

She was and it wasn't just her style! I feel like Gilbert's character changed the game for character designs afterwards and Takemiya was also a pioneer in the new sort of panel arrangement along with Hagio and many others! I feel like I might be more of a Hagio stan because her interest in stuff like gender and psychology (although often outdated/kind of misunderstood in context) haha but I deeply admire Takemiya and Hagio both. And I mean I have bought first prints of Takemiya's Wedding License printed in the 70s so my desperation is real.......... It's a shame her works are considered so deeply controversial and explicit they're not seen as a good idea to publish in west; considering how often especially kazeki is cited in multiple manga history articles & how enormous its impact was it's a real same

When I do my yearly re-read of kazeki i'm always amazed at how entranced i get with the characters; i cant even imagine how it must've felt reading that, knowing that it was the first of its kind. it was truly revolutionary.

I'm also a fan of Hagio! ^^ Iguana Girl was actually one of the first manga I've ever read, and definitely set my standard bar pretty high lol. There's just something about their styles that hold a sense of delicacy and elegance that I struggle to find in a lot of modern anime/manga.

I wish I was as strong but Gilbert arc seriously messes me up every time I read it and I yearn for death, but for some reason I tend to return to Aslan arc a lot probably because it's pretty lighthearted and wholesome compared to the rest of the series omg... I really should reread the current translations though it's been almost two years

I'm jealous, my own first manga were super entry level Dragon Ball since it was like the 00s and Finland didn't have almost any manga at all rip and I got into more older series like 70s-80s in 2013

But god I love Iguana Girl, it's so emotional and clearly very personal for Hagio herself given her own relationship with her mother she often talks about in interviews. I also admire Hagio for the fact her cast is always very diverse especially in terms of like body types (especially in female characters!) and you can really imagine seeing most of those people in real life too? And I think that's one of the biggest reasons I find her works so charming (along with her interest in psychology and gender; although often misinformed or downright wrong information, it's clear she has good intentions)
