here’s a piece from yesterday of my friend’s oc- he’s actually a fanchara for my original story, you’ll probably see me draw a lot of nomads and long haired boys like him. this piece took me about 2.5hrs. i’m trying to build my confidence doing daily paintings, and get into the habit of thumbnailing my colours first, instead of rushing in and getting lost and confused. i of course use photo reference for everything i draw, and i used a 3D model (magicposer on iPad) to make sure his feet and the ground were in the same-ish perspective. still not amazing at perspective baha.

ok this was a self indulgent piece that was more popular than i thought itd be OFJGHJD it’s my boys canther and diadus. for bunny day. they aren’t usually bunnies. its not an exaggeration to say it’s my life’s mission to draw the most beautiful muscles. sometimes i worry i take it too far but i really love crazy proportions especially from artists like Yusuke Murata, it’s extremely satisfying to draw 🤤 and it fits the characters... these 2 are kinda like the quintessential hypermasculine duo you see in ancient epics, theyre kinda larger than life anyway. i didnt give canther a collar cuz hes kind of a free spirit but i feel like i should edit it in, it’s cuter...

alauda

BARGES IN SDHGHGHF ^_>^ thank u for the daily meals nau and yes give canther a collar (for di to pull on)

for today's post, i thought id share my hourly comics from this february. it's probably easiest to view them on twitter here: https://twitter.com/15samekh/status/1223755032081977345?s=19

i really look forward to hourly comic day every year! it really feels like a day when everyone comes together and is really present about their lives and other ppls, i feel a real sense of community from it and it's kind of reflective. i think comics have an amazing capacity to engage ppl and take them on a journey that's especially accessible cuz of their short sweet visual format and flexibility. i love comics (but i hate them- but i love them- but i h-)

Your art is super fabulous. I aspire to be this good some day! @_@;; do you have any tips on remembering the different muscles? whenever I try to study from photographs, I feel as though I never get anything out of them.

i love your work so much!! especially the first piece in the thread. its got a very comfortable and homey feeling for me and i adore the colors 🥺

onessu

ticklerust thank you for your sweet compliment!! that's a good question- i'd guess roughly 20% of my time drawing is pure studying; filling a page with observational drawings, master copies, exercises, tracings etc. typically before i do a piece i'll also do some kind of prep, like several gesture drawings before fleshing out the best, doing studies of whatever objects or elements are in the composition, gathering photo reference. in my free time i also read about drawing from books or lately artists write a lot on social media (for free!!!!) - i have books by Steve Huston, Nathan Fowkes, James Gurney, Hirohiko Araki; Proko is also great. atm I'm reading 'Perspective for the Comic Artist' by David Chelsea - its probably the easiest intro to perspective ive come across, in all my travels. drawabox who? anyway i dont expect other ppl to be as single-minded about drawing (other hobbies?? hwa??) but it really is all about  dedication and consistency. the painter Scott Burdick apparently followed this schedule as a student: drawing from 9 until noon, having lunch, then painting from the model until 4, then dinner, then another round of painting from 7 to 10pm- consistently for 3 YRS!!! 🤯 idk how he did it my body hurts thinking about it. it really is about using your time effectively though... lol i rambled a bit... i enjoyed your question, thanks for asking and i hope this was helpful!!

onessu

wallstaples thank you so much!! i spend a lot of time developing my story's world and i really want the characters to look present and alive within it.. your comment means a lot!

ticklerust oh shit i think i missed your muscle question while i was writing my first reply lol. i think i got really serious with the anatomy february challenge last year, having a list to work from really focused me. before photos you have to draw skeletons and muscle diagrams; i followed Proko's anatomy videos on youtube, paused and drew frames, wrote down all the latin even though it's not essential to memorise it, did the exercises afterwards, went and applied what i learned to photos, which is a process that takes continual effort and re-learning over time. i've also seen people work wonders from books like Anatomy for Sculptors. making all the observational drawings and copying diagrams will really train your brain, i'm able to use my own studies as reference which saves hella time. good question, and good luck on your muscle journey!!

ticklerust

onessu, no, thank you so much! i rarely do anything like so. i think it's because i'm overly critical of myself when i draw from references. -- i've had a lot of friends poke fun at my art and writing in recent years that i've grown to view myself as inherently incapable of learning how to properly do either, no matter how much effort i put into things. what an irrational mindset, right? lol. maybe i just need better friends and a little more courage (: anyways, i'm going to follow in your steps and dedicate more time doing exactly what you've said!

onessu

ticklerust u dont need friends like dat!!! u need friends who will wholeheartedly support u and also drawing and learning will always be your friends, they will teach u so much about the world and connect u to people always 😭 im useless without references, our brains are just not designed to store photographic information and theres no shame in that. seeing a good attitude to learning really warms my heart, very excited for u!!

onessu SCREAMM GYAAAA CANDI CUTE i also slurp canther
