silly/obscure art programs?

Posted 23 days, 20 hours ago by Crazyclaw

I really like to challenge myself by using weird art programs from around >:]
the stuff that isn't very HQ, or if it is it's still kind of funky or unique in some way

chickenpaint, mspaint, disney's magic art studio.... lol

I don't know very many actually so, I am desperate for suggestions!
free/cheap are preferred, but any suggestions are welcome <3
and if you wanna share any examples you've done with a weird program; please do!

tux paint!! used this a LOT as a kid. love it

i feel like it's not quite what you're asking for but Corel Painter is a program specifically made to imitate traditional materials and man it's WEIRD, especially the watercolor brushes, i don't really draw in it, i just smear paint around and watch it bleed/dry on the canvas, it's a frickin stim toy of the world of drawing programs

Cosmind

js kidpix (kidpix in your browser!)

also those glow paint apps i played around with a lot on the app store when i was a kid. there's many of them out there

I sometimes use Scratch Vector or Bitmap editor for art!

Though, you might need an account to save your work, unless you download it.

pyjamac

realistic paint studio rules and it's on $10 but there's also a free trial

edit: wait whaat it used to be 10 i guess now it's 50… huh… well anyway you can use the free trial indefinitely

charboiled

i've tried heavypaint and found it quite fun!

kidpix 3d and cosmic blobs is pretty fun. kidpix 3d works on windows 11 for me but i run blobs on a windows xp virtual machine

I’m not sure if it’s on pc or android, but joy doodle is a very silly art program :3 here are some drawings i’ve done with it!! (see below, MAJOR eyestrain warning for all of them though, the whole art program is very eyestraining so I wouldn’t reccomend it if your eyes are sensitive to bright colors)

As a kid on an android i used this app called ravioli paint 2. The one thing that had me latched to it was the ability to make your drawings backgrounds transparent, which was a gold rush for me, i was fascinated with it. Last time i check for it on the app store, only one that remains is ravioli paint 1, which is a paid version (both looked exactly the same so no idea why they were separate apps in the first place)

I kinda miss it, it had it’s charm

I would really love to see you use the paint studio in animal jam for this lol. Don't have examples myself, but people make Gorgeous art in that game

I used to use 3DS Swapnote to make my own personal "how-to-draw" tutorials. I remembered trying to get really creative with its speedart function.

Sadly, I didn't have many people to share it to locally and stuff.

It has a lot of limits, and you even have to pay money to use more ink or different colors. But, it's decent.

I genuinely love drawing on flipaclip, it's primarily an animation app and doesn't have many art related features (it doesn't even have the add layer type...), but new things are added pretty often, as well as there being nice pens and such

My favorite thing is that since it's an animation app, you can store references on a different frame and have better access to it than you would on many art based apps, since usually you have to make it smaller and lower quality or constantly hide/unhide it

It isn't entirely free, I use the paid features, but the payment is only about $7 for a one-time payment last I checked so not very expensive :)

It's my primary art program, so simple to use I love it
