I had no idea that the Moomins were apparently becoming popular on the internet?
I grew up with them, in Estonia. They'd occasionally air on the TV and I had a few VHS cassettes. I don't remember them too much and I feel like I didn't see far enough episodes, but I remember Snufkin and The Groke being my favorite characters. The Groke was scary, true, but he was so mysterious, I always wanted to know more about her. With Snufkin I just liked how "cool" he seemed to me. I find myself unable to watch the show in english though, because I still remember the estonian dubbing too well and everyone sounds weird. I mean, it was your usual 0-budget estonian '90s dub, with one woman doing everyones voices, but it's stuck in my head.
Also: Estonian opening of the Moomins. Which you might notice is based on the ending theme instead. I feel like it sets a completely different tone from using the upbeat opening theme. It's a pure song of nostalgia.
Confession time: I have vague memories of being a little pipsqueak who somehow got her hands on some library copies of the moomin comics. I remember them from that time. How I recognized the characters from the cartoon, but they didn't seem to be doing anything too exciting and I couldn't read yet. So I started coloring in the comics - because they were black-and-white, which means they were meant for coloring. I wasn't the only one thought that either. I remember being really annoyed when I happened on a copy that some other little kid had already scribbled over because of reasons like MOOMIN PAPPA IS NOT MEANT TO BE GREEN BECAUSE I LIKE TO DRAW HIM PURPLE AND WHY DOES THIS ONE HAVE ORANGE SCRIBBLES ON IT.
