What song QUALITIES do you like?

Posted 12 days, 9 hours ago by Wingspan

From what I could tell, nobody has made a positive version of this thread yet so I thought I'd make one myself! The original "What song QUALITIES do you dislike" can be found here

Anyway, it's what it says on the tin :3 Everyone has their favorite artists and genres but I think it's interesting hearing what song qualities people lean towards. Only rule is no discourse.

I really enjoy saxophone solos in songs! Some people think it's weird but geniunely when I hear a saxophone in a song I get super excited. It's just such a nice, romantic sound. It's why I want to learn saxophone very soon. Other instruments I love include harmonias (especially in sad songs, I think they're very moving) and guitars with a lot of wah. I am also not immune to the way that really fuzzy bass sounds. *chef's kiss*

I also love songs where different members of the group sing different verses. It's really cute n silly n fun.

Thank you for making this a thread omg

My fave would prob be strong /screaming vocals! Like not pure screamo (tho thats cool too), but i mean like singing your lungs out type stuff. (Best examples i can give is blood in the water, holding out for a hero, slow dancing in the dark, cotards solution, dull knives. Or i guess theatrecore lol), esp when you can hear them struggle/their voice breaking. I always get shivers

also when artists use varying tones or change their vocals, either to give the song a story or just to mess around and have fun. Makes the song feel more alive imo

A great guitar riff will absolutely carry a song and make it amazing. I'm lucky to live in a country where most of the songs have really good guitar in them lol. Also I love funky synth. I also noticed I have a tendency to enjoy songs more with high pitched vocals?

Examples of my favourite guitar in songs
Radiohead - Maquiladora

The Chills - Pink Frost

PainterFight

+1 on guitar riffs ESPECIALLY on rock (or rock-adjacent) songs!! I just listened to this earlier and it had a sick-ass riff too :D

People say guitar solos are getting old but you cannot have a good rock song without a guitar solo period! I also love watching them play it live. People make their hands bleed playing these sick solos.

Speaking of guitars. I really like those segments in metalcore songs where the lead guitar suddenly just start shredding. It's not even a guitar solo, it's more of a 'bridge' I think(?). Though it can be anywhere, even in the verses. Like yeah in a more modern metal song that tends to lack the traditional guitar solo, I appreciate those that have the lead guitar shred in one shape or form at least

Here's some examples of what I meant:

The Color Morale - Human (s) Being

Polaris - NIGHTMARE

Invent Animate - Elysium
