Species Credit Field (+57)

creator field is meant to be only for who made the design.
what youd want to do is credit the species creator as a designer if it was a MYO.
thats what id do, anyways. but it depends on the preference of the species creator.

vampyric it actually says to credit the species owner as creator on MYOs in the site FAQ/rules.

(This is because creator sets permissions and the species owner sets those)

vampyric understand, other species do the reverse for the MYOs since the MYO slot holder designs it, so this extra field is to try and remove that ambiguity

either way my main point i was trying to make is that we already have different fields!

I think something like this would be nice to have to remove some of the ambiguity regarding the "creator" field! I understand how species crediting works but since there's no distinction made between "character creator" and "species creator" the water can get a bit muddied from time to time.

I would definitely appreciate this! It's a bit confusing how it currently is rn

definitely don't think thered be any harm in disambiguating species creator vs char creator. even just renaming creator to species creator without adding a design creator field (that could just stay under designer perhaps) would be an improvement that would only take changing a word and no real recoding

please please pleAse... ive always found that myo creator credit rule to be confusing (while fair, since cs have limitations) and it would be so much nicer to have a separate field for this. even with your ability to put the actual creator in the designer field, its still really confusing and causes for other complications such as the fact that it puts these characters under the species owners designs page even if they have nothing to do with the actual design as well as the original designer of the character and redesigners getting lumped together with no distinctions in the designer section... clarifications can always be made of course but it would be so much more convenient to keep these separate. i would still want the species creator to have the ability to edit ownership details in the same or similar ways, though.

i own a species that has a decent number of characters from it here and i personally feel VERY uncomfortable taking the creator credit when its a myo i didnt help design. this is also a difficulty in the sense that i have a small team of people who also help make adopts and customs for said cs. this causes problems because (a). i dont always know if the character was a myo or designed by one of the team (our organization system is kinda messy at the moment) and (b). im not sure how adopts and customs by team members should be credited in the first place (so far ive had each team member take credit, but this is also a pretty vague area i think).

all of these problems could be easily solved/simplified with a separate species credit area!! another cool thing to add to this could be a universal species tos, too :0 ive been manually adding a custom tos to all my characters of said cs which can be laborious...

sorry for the long post/rambling, but point is big juicy +1 from me especially as a species creator myself

For reference what was requested in the ticket (word-for-word):

With the above points (also linking the thread for references to community feedback), putting forth these suggestions:

• Addition of Species Credit Field to Character Profiles
  • with allowance to credit multiple species owners for co-owned species
• Addition of option to Request Species Credit
  • Approval of this field by the actual Species owner could also function as a tracking for verified species ownership etc.
• Retain the Creator Field
  • changing it to species requires many existing character profiles to be edited and might not be well-received
  • "Creator" could also refer to whoever had the the original idea for the character's design
  • (i.e. MYO slot holder who came up with the concept and commissioned art from an artist who would be credited as the Designer)

Additional suggestions (not mentioned in thread at the moment of sending in this ticket):

• Option to indicate in the Species field if the character is "Non-Species" (not belonging to any species) / "User's Personal Species" / "Closed Species" / Semi-Open Species" / "Open Species"
• maybe Species Tab for User Profile (similar to the Design / Art credits tab)
  • togglable to be displayed / hidden for each user profile
  • to cater for: users who design species / users who have their personal species they might want to showcase / users who aren't involved in any species at all (tab wouldn't be of use to them in this case)

I would be excited to see the distinction between users' personal species and commercial, non-personal species! I definitely hope staff agrees with your ticket and adds the feature in ;v;
