suggestion for usage of bases

Posted 3 years, 9 months ago (Edited 3 years, 9 months ago) by smooshkin

I have many users tagging me as the artist on designs they used my bases for, putting their derivative work in my art tab. I have over 30 pages of art in there that is not technically mine, nor does it always represent even remotely the nature or quality of my work and I would like to see either a new credit tab for base artists to be put that does not put the art into their art tab-- or some new "derivative art" ab or something so that my art tab can remain my own art.

Thanks for considering, idk how many people this affects, but I had to spend several hours cleaning up the credit on them all and I am still not even done. I had to get help from a friend to account share just to remove all the credits.

Edit: I also feel like there should be a differentiation between being marked as the creater of a character, or only it's species. I have also many characters in my "designs" tab that I did not design!! But I cannot change those easily at all. I would have to individually change the ownership on hundreds of people's characters. It's very overwhelming..

+1 since I've shared my lineart on TH, people started using them here an credit me as well. It's not as extreme as in your case but I still dislike it.

i made bases and never actually tough of that. I can only imagine how 'clogged' popular basemaker's art tab must be! +1

+1, this has never occurred to me but I can't imagine it's less annoying than having stuff you didn't design in your designs due to being tagged as the creator...

Koatty Isn't that solution sort of defeating the purpose of trying to fix the issue at all? That's a user-created solution that wouldn't catch on site-wide very easily. We're here to suggest a site-created solution. I have a lot I need to manage already as a working artist and I think it's reasonable that I shouldn't have to solve this myself by mass-advertising a useless bulletin only a tiny percentage of my clients and subbers will see asking people to credit me differently. It's not a realistic solution, sorry.

+1111111111111 not being able to see your own art amongst dozens of others' is pretty sadchamp

Koatty Thus, I offer a solution to benefit both sides in this suggestion thread. I only explained why yours would be of no use to me personally. Maybe for folks who only have a few designs coming in, that'd be fine. For me, I have literal hundreds. Maybe I am a minority, which I accept. But I didn't make this suggestion to be empirical, just to see if others may want the same thing: :) ty for the feeback!

This isn't about not crediting people though, this is about suggesting an addition for another tab under /art that acts subsidiary but still credits you, linked to the current system of being able to tag artists specifically as to whether they did the base/colour/lines/etc. which could plausibly link to a different tab.

YandieChan This might be a good solution for some folks but I've never seen it benefit anyone personally to split your viewerbase like this in the many years I've been running my business. Plus, it would add yet another arbitrary thing to manage in my already very busy schedule. :(
