Leaves his kingdom on a journey led by a celestial kitsune deity to reunite his world
Azeris is the current king of the Azer empire. His family has been ruling for many centuries there. The royalty there is seen as incarnation of 1 of 2 gods that switch every generation. He's the incarnation of the sun god, his father was the moon god.
At the beginning of his story he was a brat who was used to being the top dog of his planet. Never really ACTUALLY being told no, and if he was told no, he just wouldn't listen. But at the end he grew up a good deal, still keeping his stubbornness but now it was used to defend his morals. He's one of the 3 main characters in that story and ends up defeating the big bad when someone else refuses to do it. I love him so much!
As far as royal drama, his advisor, a childhood friend of his (in his eyes, that whole situation itself is complicated), who is only a few years older than he is, ends up joining the opposing side of the galactic war that they are in. Mostly because he ends up hating Azeris because of having to serve him for years, but also because he thinks it's the only true way to help their people as a whole. The two are constantly working to stop the other, and Azeris feels very hurt by the betrayal, though he tries to just make it seem like the betrayal is just a crime, not a personal wronging that makes him sad.
