Types of Characters

Species

Any and all species are welcome. If you don't see your characters' species listed then submit it! This is a fantasy world, so the sky is the limit. Culturally, most citizens are humanoid. Animalistic characters are feared and often disrespected, because no one can tell if they're one fo the blood thirsty monsters in disguise or not. That isn't to say that all animal characters hold no respect (some are awed and worshipped for special abilities they might have,) but hopefully that gives you a springboard to start with.

Character Classes / Jobs

Think classic JRPG game. Those who can fight are very valuable, but that's because they die so often that the number of willing fighters is dropping as fast as they die. The village is post apocalyptic, so essential jobs like doctors, potion makers, builders, etc. will be in high demand as well. Anyone who has a particular expertise that can be passed on is expected to be a teacher, and the council will spoil teachers rotten to keep them teaching.

Luxury services like restaurants and cafes do exist, but they are low priority with rations. You get "Luxury Tickets" that award you a luxury service, and the service is paid for and minorly managed by the village council. Most food is either made at homes or in big cafeterias.

There is a school system. Students get decent food and guranteed a place to stay. In exchange, they have to be constantly learning and producing results. If you fail out of the school, you basically end up homeless and with no food. Most villagers see failed students as freeloaders and are too mean to hire them. School is crazy stressful in this world.

Lastly, jobs like scout, messengers, explorers, rune experts, scavengers, etc. are also important. Please be creative!

Mana & Mana Poisoning

After the Apocalypse, all of the mana in this world was "poisoned." Casting spells makes the mage sick. They will eventually die from poison-like symptons after casting a certain number of spells. Some people can cast huge spells and go on for ten years, but most of the mages with that kind of magical capacity died in the early days of the Apocalypse. Nowadays, most mages get sick very quickly.

While a mage is able to use magic, they are highly valued by the village and spoiled rotten. Everyone loves them, or at least pretends to. They live quite comfortably. But once they lose their ability to cast spells or retire for their health, all of this spoiling stops abruptly.

When creating a mage, please consider Mana Poisoning in their character. However, don't let it discourage you from making mages and making them powerful, should you choose. Just keep it in mind. Please do not spoil the Apocalyptic setting with huge feats of miraculous magic without considering the Mana Poisoning consequences! C:
