purenai tagging you because it's been a little while ^-^ time to play dead thread redemption :3c
Adrienne's hand shook, just a little bit, and she tried to keep it steady. She hadn't done someone's makeup in years, except for her own. It didn't help that most of her friends, like Sol, Kenneth, and Otto, didn't wear it, and her friend Mirdri's makeup was so expensive that Adrienne was afraid to touch it.
For Seung-Cheol, Adrienne made sure to present her nicest, cleanest, most expensive makeup, which was only the stuff from the makeup shop, and not the luxury stuff many of her old friends used. With so many mansions in the neighborhood, she didn't want to underwhelm Seung-Cheol with her house. She didn't know what his expectations are, or if he had heard of the place at all.
She didn't regret her choice to sequester the nice makeup into a fresh bag, but did she have to include so many different items? She fished around a little awkwardly in the bottom for a brush, her hand coming across multiple lipsticks, a couple of eyeshadow palettes, and highlighter in the process.
"You just wanted to cover a few things up, right? I understand." Adrienne pulled out the firm brush from the bag. She already had the glass bottle of foundation in her other hand, and shook it like it was something she had been doing forever. Really, she had been doing it for a little while, to cover up that unpleasant scar on her neck from that one particular vampire attack.
"I'm sorry, it looks like I'm running out. I think I should have enough for you, though."
Will he notice if this is all wrong? she wondered. I don't know if this is the brush you're supposed to use with foundation. I don't even think I have his shade. If I mix a bit of eyeshadow in... Adrienne fumbled with her makeup bag.
She decided she might have to ask to borrow Mirdri's foundation after all. It was a good thing she was visiting. Adrienne called to her friend, and after an awkward request to borrow foundation so expensive Adrienne thought the brand name on the compact only made runway clothes, she returned her attention to Seung-Cheol.
"I'm so sorry about the delay. I think this should work much better for you." Adrienne opened the compact and dragged the brush through it, leaving coarse lines on the surface. "Hang on, I think this is the wrong brush. Do you mind that? Are you okay with it? I guess there's no sense in wasting all of this product." Adrienne brushed the foundation onto Seung-Cheol's face. "Okay, that's a lot clearer already. You look really great. I mean, you looked great before, I don't mean to say..."
She dropped her brush.
"Maybe I won't use that one again, since it's been on the floor." She examined Seung-Cheol for a moment. "Actually, I think we only need a bit more. And what was the other thing? You were worried about the snow? I guess there is a lot of it this time of the year. It started earlier than it usually does; I'm surprised." Adrienne took a small brush from the bottom of her makeup bag. "You know, when we're done here, you can have something to eat or drink, if you'd like. You don't get meat often, right? There are some leftovers in the fridge that Sol cooked last night, and I'm sure Kenneth left some alcohol hidden away in one of the kitchen cupboards that you can have. Something for your trouble, you know."
Adrienne applied the last of the necessary foundation to Seung-Cheol's face, then carefully set the compact and brush down on her wooden desk. She fished around in her bag for a liquid eyeliner.
"This should help with the snow. But, I wonder if there's a better way to do this? I heard it's not really safe to use eye makeup after it's been on someone else's eyes. Maybe I have an old pencil here that I can sharpen, and that one will be okay."
As many blunders as she made, Adrienne quite liked putting makeup on his face. She almost missed being able to do that kind of service for someone, even if that someone was just passing through. It made her feel useful, like a pastiche of being close to someone. After all, most people didn't let complete strangers struggle to put a bit of foundation on them.
"I think you'd like talking to Sol. He's downstairs right now. His mother was a tailor, so I think you two would get along, maybe. Do you want the liquid eyeliner, after all? I don't have the pencil anymore. I need to get a new one, soon."
Adrienne wiped off the liquid eyeliner's foam tip with the side of the makeup bag. Oh well, it wasn't her cleanest bag anymore. She braced her hand on the side of Seung-Cheol's face as lightly as she could, and tried to make a thin line. No wing, she reminded herself. This is for utility.
His eyes were very pretty. Just her luck, that she'd have to get so close to them to finish her task. Don't get distracted. Don't get distracted. Make the darn line. I can't believe I have to do this twice. She eked out a set of passable lines, not entirely disappointed with her work, and not entirely pleased, either.
She held up her antique handheld mirror in front of Seung-Cheol. "What do you think? Is it okay? If it's not, I can redo it if you'd like. I'm sorry if it's not what you were expecting."
