General Thread for PSAs

Posted 8 years, 26 days ago (Edited 5 years, 7 months ago) by Vespisia

Hello!

8/9: New PSA added.

5/14: 2 new PSAs added.

4/8: New PSA posted and additional information on Squidribs added to relevant PSA.

It was suggested that there should perhaps be a general thread for PSAs which is a fine idea. A place that links to other PSAs and keep things organized.
You can link your threads/PSAs/etc, and I'll add them to the posts. :D
Please Note: I can only accept public PSAs. Anon PSAs are too much of a risk to accept, as they can be open to slander.

Things That Count for PSAs!
-Scams
-Illegally chargebacked (you did a commission, but person claims you never did, for instance)
-Being shifty on doing owed things (taking months on an icon for example, lack of contact or updates, etc)
-Tracing and profiting off of it...
-Etc...

Things That Don't Count!
-Someone has better art than you
-Rude behavior
-Subjective issues
-Dog ate your homework

Obviously, this is just the basic frame work. Each case is different. For instance, someone could go around harassing artists for art and customs, or for people to give up their adopts and whatnot, and that could almost certainly be considered for a PSA...

Of course, it would be great if no more PSAs occur, but in the case they do, I support people posting them because they keep the community safe and will link to them in this general thread. owo/

There'll be two posts, one for PSAs and one for resolved cases! ^^

ooF I'm sorry to hear about the experience like that,,,, Esp if there's a solid communication going on but an artist acting like that is kinda,,, y i k e s. Is it alright to also get the artist's name via PM? I wanna be a bit cautious since I'm interested in ordering Chibi commissions soon. ;;

super sorry to hear this happened to you! it all sounds SERIOUSLY unprofessional. if it's okay to hop on this bit, i'd really like to be PM'd about the username since i was about to start searching for commissions for a couple of my characters, and chibi commissions would be something on my list to get.

glad this thread exists so that maybe i can finally lament about this horrible chargeback filled against me a few years back
I didn't really speak up about it bc it wasn't like a triple digit number (just $20), plus i was only just now beginning to start taking commissions regularly but recently I noticed the person being active still even long after the incident and my contacting them about it .
even telling me (about a year , nearing two ago though) that i wasnt the only person who contacted them about chargebacks , which had me concerned that this person may be actively attempting to scam more people , possibly targeting artists with the cheapest prices that seem hardly enough to even scrape by. /:

Unfortunately, my sister Dolce and I also have a few artists we no longer trust for various reasons (mostly never delivering promised commissions and leaving us waiting to this day on refunds) though we've never shared their names before

Moreover though, I was wondering if anyone here knows what the process of filing a PayPal chargeback is like? I've never filed one before but I sent the artist I'm considering chargebacking a fair amount of money and I really don't want to have lost it for unfinished sketches. The chargeback date is fast approaching and I lost contact with them in early July and now, they seem to have disappeared from the internet altogether, so I can't seem to get in contact with them anywhere -- I've already tried their Discord, email, and Patreon, and their dA profile says they haven't been on in 4 weeks. They're actually (imo) a fairly well-known semi-new anime-style artist with a long to-do list (which they never added me on but, to be fair, quite a few people have asked now to be put on their to-do list so it seems not up-to-date in general), but I've only seen 1 or 2 people probing them for commission updates.
I'm sorry if this was the wrong place to ask since I don't want to make a full-blown PSA yet, but my issue seemed related ;v; and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Synchronicity

Lotor Oh wow, I was totally unaware of the partial refund option, but it sounds really fitting for my situation. Here's to hoping that I can hear back from them before the dispute deadline, but thank you so much for the advice! It's greatly appreciated :>!

cini Synchronicity I also know exactly who you guys are talking about! It’s so frustrating! I was in contact with them on discord and they gave me this huge apology and how they’d get started with my commissions in a few weeks. I haven’t heard anything from them since. I’ve tried messaging them over and over again and nothing(mainly on discord)I really wish I could get my money back. I know life gets in the way sometime but you should always keep in touch with your commissioners. It’s almost been a year since I commissioned them and really hope they can finish everyones commission. T _ T I’ve been the same number on that list for like forever. I just don’t even want the art anymore.

Yeah I'm kind of hearing a lot of 'had issue with artist' but no names dropped which is a bit rough as someone who commissions heavily. Much here seems very 'vent' rather than warning or asking advice :<

PaperTsubaki it wasn't directed at you given you were asking heavily for advice - which seemed very reasonable and is very much what this board is for. Asking for advice as to how to process is totally alright, especially when there's concern about how an artist might send friends after you. That is something I've dealt with in the past and is beyond stressful. It's something difficult to deal with and very rough when a community isn't overly large. The thread sort of devolved after you made your posting, after the advice asking into more of a 'I know who you're talking about' and general talking about having to do chargebacks without any talk about what artist or commissioner at all. As much as I understand that - I think a separate thread would make more sense for this given well....it's not a PSA in any sense or even advice asking. That wasn't what you were doing in the least.
