The Valos are not alone in the Americas, nor have they remained as cut off as some think.

The Mosa

It's been known in the old world that the Mosa (Eights) have been exploring the coastlines and some assumed they'd made it to the Americas, but there were no settlements or any other confirmation of this fact and most dismissed it as stories. The truth is that several Mosa have indeed rediscovered the Americas and the proof is in the children they have unknowingly left behind. The Valos are welcoming to strangers and a travel-weary Mosa is ready to accept such hospitality.

The most recent of these was a one-man expedition in Salim, who sailed across the Atlantic until he reached North America. There he encountered Vamic, and the two developed a relationship. Understanding why his predecessors kept quiet about America (the Twos of the old world are not highly thought of), Salim returned home to report his failure in reaching the new world. He did not realize he left behind a son in Ronan.

The Karkan

A race that was already in the Americas when the Valos arrived but did not make themselves known until long after they'd settled. Some Valos would disappear for days to be returned beaten, reporting unseen assailants. The Valos tried to contact these unknowns, tried to understand how they'd offended. Where they on someone else's land? Were they trespassing against some established culture? No matter their attempts no contact was made and the now dubbed Karkan continued to attack the Valos. They withdrew and attempted to keep some distance to no avail.

The Karkan are a plague upon the Valos. No one knows what they are but that they simply enjoy torment. They capture Valos and impregnate them, then dump them somewhere with no more care as to whether the Valon survives or not. In fact, over the years the Karkan have grown worse, torturing their captives and using telepathy to reach into their minds and violate them completely. Only their victims have ever seen a Karkan and they usually don't want to talk about it. The Karkan do not regard the Valos as anything more than things to be played with.
