Lalions - Closed Species [First Batch!]

Hey! I've been playing around with the idea of another closed species. I tried to go for something more stereotypically cute than my last attempt (rock-eating goblins, ha) and ended up with this cutie

FAQ:

Can Lalions guard & represent other types of flowers?
I'm definitely considering it as a super rare / custom trait. Perhaps something that's unlocked with MYO events? Lalions (lapine + dandelions) were meant to be dandelion-exclusive, hence their name, and other flowers may not work as well with the whole seeding/blooming thing because they aren't as distinct in those plants. However I don't see why they wouldn't be alright as long as they're not commonplace. That being said I have done test runs (eg. Astraeus' Francis) where the flower is represented through patterning instead of replacing the dandelion parts - hopefully that shows haha. Being able to do that means that other flowers can be included without the price associated with customs.

Are they any particular size? What's their lifespan like?
In both their alternate and our dimension they are small, fairy-size creatures. They're also invisible to humans/animals unless they choose to be seen. However, Lalions can take on a form the size of a short human* if they wish, it's just tiring to maintain for long lengths of time. They are immortal creatures who can only be killed by outside forces, such as a human foot.
* This means they're about 5'0", not that they look human. Lalions retain their traits when they upsize.

What's the deal with their flowers? How are they created?
When they pop into existance (in the alternate dimension) they instantly form a bond to the seed of a dandelion on Earth. This bond allows the Lalion to manipulate the lifeforce of the flower directly with their magic, as well as influence luck to favour its survival. Basically, they want to keep it alive for as long as possible, and when it eventually dies they form a new connection with one of the dandelion's offspring. I'm exploring the concept of flowerless Lalions whose dandelions were unable to breed before dying.
If two Lalions breed their child is instantly created in the same way - but it could be anywhere within the dimension. Family bonding isn't particularly common due to this.

Do Lalions eat? Socialise? Have a life?
Yes, they can and do. They 'feed' on solar energy from the sun in a process similar to photosynthesis.  Lalions would generally stay by themselves, but since 99% of them share a common interest in plants there would be areas and times when they would socialise. They are otherworldly, so many would meet up in their alternate dimension in natural, flowery places. Lalions who've hopped over into Earth would definitely have groups that they stick to for safety and familiarity. They hold gatherings but don't settle permanently.

What is this 'alternate dimension'?
I imagine it as a rather empty version of Earth. It doesn't have any animals inhabiting it and is magically sustained. It also isn't a real-time equivalent, so if you backtracked 3000 years when humans hadn't altered the land through agriculture, that's pretty much what it would look like. Overall, a very peaceful place where Lalions are completely safe from outside influences.

These look really cool! I look forward to seeing more of this species! ^o^

I really like the two stages- Would there be any change (other than physically ofc-) in the Lalion when they change stages? :0 Such as personality or something--

And is there any particular size for them? And a reason why they were created/why the guard flowers? Sorry for all the questions, I'm just really interested in them oops-

And good luck homing that freebie! ^v^

ninjashield5 Thank you :') + I appreciate the questions, they're really helpful for fleshing things out! I'm in the process of typing out solid lore & info to go along with a more final species sheet.

I'm hesitant to associate their blooming/seeding phases with certain psychological changes since it could stunt personality choice and growth, which I think should be left up to the person who buys them. It'd be easy to say that a blooming Lalion would be happier and more outgoing because of the connotation with springtime, but I don't think that's my place y'know? The phases are definitely going to be edited a bit (wtf plants don't breed while seeding what was I thinking).

In both their alternate and our dimension they are small, fairy-size creatures. They're also invisible to humans/animals unless they choose to be seen. However, Lalions can take on a form the size of a short human if they wish, it's just tiring to maintain for long lengths of time.

The honest answer to why they guard flowers is that I'm lazy and like flowers. The 'proper' answer is because when they pop into existance (in that alternate dimension) they instantly form a bond to the seed of a dandelion. This bond allows the Lalion to manipulate the lifeforce of the flower directly with their magic. Basically they want to keep it alive for as long as possible, and when it eventually dies they form a new bond with one of the dandelion's offspring. I'd imagine there'd be some edgy Lalions whose bonds are permanently broken because their dandelions weren't able to breed before dying. That'd be neat to explore.

Hopefully that answers your questions! Thanks again.

What a beauty, omg. I'd totally take them in (edit: see question 1 I'm so sorry), but I have a few questions:

1. Can regional species develop (for example, lalions that take care of cacti or things like that), and how do they vary? Oh no now I want a succulent one.

2. Do they eat anything, an de if so, what?

3. Are they solitary, or do they form small communities? For some reason I feel like I can't see them like, forming tiny cities in fields, but I can see there being like general commerce centers or community places? Did you have anything in mind there?

4. Lifespan?

5. When you say they can take the form of a short human, is that a general size thing, or do they actually look like humans? Do their skin tones match up with their normal forms?

@neonpine Alright, let me try and answer these...

1) I've had multiple people ask, so I'm definitely considering it as a super rare / custom trait. Perhaps something that's unlocked with MYO events? Lalions (lapine + dandelions) were meant to be dandelion-exclusive, hence their name, and other flowers may not work as well with the whole seeding/blooming thing because they aren't as distinct in those plants. However I don't see why they wouldn't work as long as they're not commonplace. That being said I have done test runs (eg. Astraeus' Francis) where the flower is represented through patterning instead of replacing the dandelion parts - hopefully that shows haha.

2) I like to think that they don't have to eat (food-food), but doing so isn't detrimental to their bodies and may even speed up magic recovery. If they regularily 'ate' something that wasn't human food I'd pick sunlight or other energies in the atmosphere to support the plant lore. Basically they can have a bowl of spaghetti and be fine.

3) Yeah - I feel like they'd generally stay by themselves, but since 99% of them share a common interest in plants there would be areas and times when they would socialise. Not sure if they'd have an entire economy going on lmao. They are otherworldly, so many would meet up in their alternate dimension (I imagine it as an emptier version of our planet) in natural, flowery places. Lalions who've hopped over into Earth would definitely have groups that they stick to for safety and familiarity. You're right though, they hold gatherings and don't settle permanently. Why should they? It's not like they have to hold down a job, make food, raise a family etc.

4) I'd say immortal while able to be killed by outside forces. Currently considering the idea of Lalions who don't have a flower to care for anymore.

5) Size-thing, sorry. They'd keep their Lalion appearance and traits. Perhaps a truly human form could take extra energy?

Thank you!

Astraeus You're going to end up with enough to build a little flower city lmao. Thank you for your support <3 + I may have a paypal sorted out by the time I draw them but honestly core membership on dA is a little more tempting. My page is too ugly for me atm haha.
