Retrouvailles
It's been about a year since Isaak had left his hometown to get treated. Today he was finally going to get home and see Lionel again. They had maintained contact through the month apart via Wing-mail. He didn't have to travel on horse back this time, he had his own mobile home now. He was getting close. If he climbed the tower of his abode he could probably see the rooves of his village down the hills. If he were to guess, he was about 1 hour away, maybe 45 minutes if he accelerated. [What shall he do?]
Isaak wondered if Lionel had made any progress toward his first flight yet... he had avoided the subject in his letters. Once he was close to reaching the main entrance of the town he climbed back down and started to manually manœuvre the house around town and park it in a free spot. Isaak expected Lionel to be at his door as soon as he arrived, but he was nowhere to be seen yet.
"Uh?" "You must be Isaak right? He talked a lot about you." The red head offered his hand to shake "Im Kennedy! Not sure if he mentioned me in his letters..." Isaak nodded. "Follow me, I know where he hides that time of day." Kennedy ordered as he walked away, Isaak trailing him.
Kennedy stared at Isaak for a minute. He looked disappointed."I suppose he forgot to mention what's been going on with his uncle in his letter..." Judging by Isaak's expression, he was right. "His uncle 'got tired' of Lionel still not flying..." Isaak was dumfounded to hear what had unfolded earlier this year. Pushing your own nephew off a cliff hoping the adrenaline rush would make his wings come out was quite extreme, even if there was a tiny bit of logic behind it. Lionel could have died. "Reingh doesn't bother him here..."
"I mean, he was going to..." Kennedy stopped himself and pointed at a cave entrance. "Here we are." Isaak ran in head first. The cave was far more welcoming than expected: dozens of pots plants and flowers colored the walls.Isaak was glad to see him again after so long, but he was still upset about Reignh. "Why the fuck didn't you tell me Reignh almost killed you? Why didn't you leave?!" Lionel weakly hugged him back, filled with both happiness, guilt and pain. "I was going to tell you...
"You're right.." stammered Isaak "Im sorry, I shouldn't force you with things like this..." Both of them tried to compose themselves better, Kennedy silently watching. "We did plan on leaving as soon as you arrived" stated Kennedy "Well.. Lionel would... I'd love to tag along but I understand if you'd rather not... You don't really know me..." Isaak shook his head "And leave you stranded on your own in this shit hole? Of course you're coming!"
"Im only gonna take a couple.. Lilium does enjoy this garden, I'd feel bad taking it away from them." replied Lionel. Isaak picked up one of the pot "You're really good with plants! I wanted to add greenery to my house but had to resort to cacti and succulents." Isaak snorted "They 'thrive on neglect' which suits me!" Lionel laughed "Your botanical house dreams can flourish! Im good with flowers and Kenny is good with crops."
Once the pots were secure in Isaak's house, the two residents went to pack their things. Of course the blue haired guy went to help is boyfriend pack. As he did so he looked at how much things has changed during the year he spent away; a new house here, a missing store there…
"Yeah... If there was hope for them then there's still hope for me" Lionel nervously chuckled prompting Isaak to pat his cheek. "Don't sweat it too much! To me it's fine if you never fly. Of course if you WANT to fly, Ill do everything I can to help!"
Isaak could see the glimmer in Lionel's eyes. He'd been saying that since they were kids and every time Isaak would swoon at the idea. It would surely be a romantic experience. The sweet moment was interrupted by a knock at the door. It was Kennedy. "Are we leaving right here right now or..." "I think we should wait until tomorrow morning." Suggested Lionel, turning toward Isaak. "You need a rest after your trip don't you?"
Kenny woke up early and prepared breakfast. After fetching Lionel, Kenny knocked on Isaak's door and shouted "Wakey wakey!" Shuffling could be heard, followed by rapid footsteps. "YES! HELLOW! IT'S GO TIME!" Isaak blurted full of excitement "Where should we be heading? To the Northern Isles? Or perhaps the Armetha Plains?"
"I was thinking. Since it's gonna be winter soon, we should head south." He said between two bites. "Much warmer!""Works for me" Replied Kennedy. Lionel nodded in agreement. With their destination roughly planned and their stomach full it was finally time to get on the road. Isaak gave a quick tour of his house before doing so. He only had planned for Lionel to live here so there were only two bedrooms.
"I mean... Isn't it obvious?" Kennedy asked. "You two are dating are you not? wouldn't it make the most sense for you to share a bed?" "Yo-you're not wrong..." Stuttered Isaak "You have a point..." "You both are fucking doofus you know that?.. You're acting like holding hand would be the lewdest thing in the world! Have you even kissed yet?" Both Lionel and Isaak were as red as rubies "Once" whispered Isaak "When I left a year ago..." "T-there's nothing wrong with that."
"Hey! He's trying his best!" Isaak pouted then waved his hand. "Why don't you go and get yourself comfy in YOUR new room? You too Lio."Isaak wasn't too upset. He knew that was just playful banter but using Lionel slow-growing wings was a bit low. Lionel dropped his bag of clothes in a corner of Isaak's room. It was smaller than the one that was planned for him but somehow it felt comfier. He sat at the window and looked at his hometown shrinking on the horizon. It was the last time he'd see it... He wouldn't miss it.
