History

FAMILY HISTORY
Teddy is adopted almost immediately after birth through closed adoption, a fact that he knew growing up. Not much is disclosed of his birth parents—Teddy's adoptive parents knew just as much as Teddy did—but Teddy has had no qualms with this, and has no urgency on finding his "origins" so to speak. His parents, Felicia and William Carter, had adopted due to Felicia's infertility. William unexpectedly passed away just shy of Teddy's fifth birthday, leaving Felicia to rear Teddy on her own. James—Teddy's middle name—is Felicia's father's name.

CHILDHOOD
Teddy grew up middle-class, and was brought up with love and compassion by his mother, which evidently shows itself as he matures to his teens. He had significant difficulties with academic work and struggled with sitting still in class, and was promptly diagnosed with ADHD (then-called ADD, in the 80s). As Felicia was apprehensive in treating Teddy with medication, Teddy is often encouraged to "wear off" his energy and do things he liked instead, i.e. sports. This largely forms the basis for Teddy's love for football and baseball, before solely focusing on football during highschool when he is immediately recruited for the school team. He grows up with a special interest in football, and collects posters, records matches, and immerses himself in it—something his mother heavily encouraged. 

While he still struggled in class while growing up, Teddy upkeeps his place by performing in above-averages, in safe B's and C's. His mother often teaches him at home with great patience. If it is not yet obvious, Teddy fondly loves his mother, and their relationship growing up meant that Teddy had significant respect for women and mothers in general. 

Felicia's upbringing results in a compassionate, honest, and kindly young man, passionate of the things he likes the most. Due to this, Teddy rarely had any significant "accidents" in childhood that would severely impact him later on in life. He was always surrounded by friends, and this accumulated in his "popularity" as he grew up in highschool.

SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

• Had a strange attachment to a male friend he had in junior school, which went nowhere as said friend moved away. Teddy doesn't really realise what this meant until much later on, but reports feeling strongly about it as he grew up and fooled around with other girls, until he eventually realizes the fact that he was gay
• Appending the above event, Felicia noticed this oddly close friendship, and sits Teddy down one day and tells him that she would "love him no matter what", but urges him to be cautious about it in front of other people. Teddy, in his young teens then, didn't really know what this meant, though this meant that around the time Teddy starts bringing Tony home, Teddy never had to "come out" per se and Felicia was not surprised
• Won his first football game at the age of 11—the youngest in the team—which was greatly celebrated by his mother. This positive association further encouraged Teddy to pursue football, though conversely, he gets somewhat irrationally upset when he loses a game, even if he never loses motivation to improve
• Later gets on a scholarship for his first college option, and considered going into the military after graduating

Personality and Mannerisms

• Animated: Gestures a lot when he talks. Not too excessively, but noticeably more than the average person
• Articulate: Says words very clearly, with concise meaning. Though this often means that he waits for a few moments to think of the right words to respond with
  

PERSONALITY FEATURES

• Pleasant: Teddy is emotionally intelligent. While not extremely empathetic, he shows an effort to understand others, even if he's never experienced it before or disagrees with the other person's point.
  
• Face it head-on!: Teddy doesn't like conflicts, but that doesn't mean he likes avoiding it. He's very open with his emotions, and usually tells others of his impression of them. Teddy can usually reach some sort of compromise if things don't go his way. He's not the most persuasive person, but his reputation usually allows him to go where he wants
