Part 2

A few years later Nocturna has two healthy heirs to the throne: Adrian, official crown prince, and Aurora. In addition, Horai has been keeping the country more or less stable throughout all the recent changes. Many disagree with him but overall he has kept the situation from collapsing into a civil war. However, all the internal conflict doesn't go unnoticed by the neighboring country of Calladria; for years the leaders of the adjacent country have been looking to expand into Nocturna's territory, but it has never been quite an ideal time such as right now. Military leader of Calladria, General Odmire, begins to organize an assault.

Luckily, Horai hears about the plans before anything happens. He isn't fond of the idea of a war but also has no desire to bring fighting anywhere near the capital or other settlements, so ultimately he decides to try and stop Calladria's army near the border of the two countries. The two armies face each other, with Horai and Odmire meeting in the battlefield. It doesn't last long however, with Horai getting a spear through his chest and flung over a cliff to the ocean below.

The situation wasn't looking very good at this point; Calladria, with their superior technology, was slowly pushing back the Nocturnian army. Phil decides now, with all that has happened, is an appropriate time to retreat and heads back to the castle.

When Phil informs Kairi of what happened, she's extremely upset but is able to remain calm. She makes the decision to stay in Kannon as a proper head of the country and wait for the arrival of Odmire and the Calladrian army, but she tells Phil to take the twins away, so they aren't in any danger. He and Lyra, a captain in the army who frequently guards Kairi, transport the twins to separate ends of the country, placing them with friends of friends. Adrian and Aurora are upset to be separated, but able to keep in contact somewhat through their secret means of communicating. Back in the capital, Odmire storms the castle and declares himself the new sovereign of Nocturna, throwing Kairi into the dungeons.

A year later, the family that Aurora is staying with moves across the country, and happens to end up in the same town as Adrian; they are happy to see each other again. However, tragedy strikes when Adrian's foster family is killed in a mysterious fire. After this, the twins decide to stop hiding and make their way back to the capital. On their way, they are almost killed by Calladrian soldiers, but a mysterious hooded figure saves them. They're able to safely make it to Kannon.

Meanwhile, the mysterious figure is able to sneak into the castle dungeons and see how Kairi is doing. She recognizes it to be Horai immediately by the sound of his voice, and she is very relieved to know that he is alive. After checking on her, Horai heads to the main area of the castle, where Odmire has been staying. After a struggle, Horai is victorious and kills Odmire, taking back the castle and the country.

After things have calmed down and the twins have returned to the castle, Kairi wondered how Horai ended up not dead. He explained that he was saved by a man, Rodger, and after he had fully recovered, he was able to find and meet up with Phil and other members of the Nocturnian army to plan and execute a counterattack to retake the country.
