Background

Kimiko began as an experiment under the label- Project Aries. 

She was created by master geneticist, Hector Gilligan, and was originally going to be presented to the Shredder in order to help find his enemies, the Utrom. Gilligan hoped to replicate his first experiment, Project Libra. He had acquired her as an unfertilized turtle egg from a local aquarium. With enough experimentation with a peculiar green substance he had come across, as well as enough ’enhanced’  vitamin supplements, Gilligan was able to successfully mutate her within a giant test tank. However, such an upbringing wasn’t without its defects. Kimiko was sick and frail with tubes running all over her body as she developed. 

Four years passed and she wasn’t any better. However, due to her status, she was deemed a failure and ordered to be destroyed by the Shredder. Gilligan on the other hand, was a disheveled mess of insanity as he had no intentions of doing so and fled, breaking open the tank and forcefully taking Kimiko with him. He threw her in a large truck and drove off. As he was on the move, the sickly Kimiko was conscious enough to open the back door of the truck. Right before Gilligan made a sharp turn and crashed into something as he took notice. As the door flung open, Kim flew out of the truck and on impact, hit her shell on the pavement before rolling into an open sewer grate.

As Kim hit the sewer water, a mutant rat, Splinter, who at first thought she was one of his turtles dove in to get her. That was until he noticed the green hair. Splinter sat her down so he could dry himself by shaking. Kimiko, who was still conscious, imitated his movements with a giggle. But that was before passing out with a high fever. 

Splinter rushed her to the lair, where she became a part of the family.  She had a barcode on her collar bone, it was distorted and almost faded from the water, but the lines were close enough to resemble a name, “Kimiko”. 

For a portion of her childhood, Kimiko suffered constant fevers. Being a mutant, it was difficult to medicine for her. However, they became less frequent to almost non existent as she grew older. Being sick didn’t stop Kim from learning ninjutsu, even if she didn’t have the strength, she would drag a blanket and pillow with her just to watch the current training session.  

As a result of injury, her shell had stopped growing with her. It stops in the middle of her torso, leaving her bottom, back half exposed as a weak spot.
