...Or it would be if I got past the introduction. I actually have a plan for this one. I just... never got around to implementing it.

This is what I came up with when given the prompt: "Write a scene where the only spoken dialogue is “Umm, err, uh-huh, mm-hmm, etc.” It also acted as the catalyst to arranging Derek's story.

An Enlightening Encounter

Both Derek and this fire-summoning individual locked gazes, sharing in their simplified expression of ‘What the hell’ and, ‘Oh crap’, respectably.

“...Umm…” Derek mumbled, never once taking his eyes off of this woman, for fear of witnessing yet another unexplainable occurrence. Perhaps she would vanish in a puff of glitter, or use her pyrokinesis against something other than a few unfortunate trees, like say, on him.

“Errr...” The Mage looked right back at him, frozen in place with one hand still outstretched towards a branching oak to her left. The scorch marks caused by her disrespectful usage of her abilities still clearly visible, as with traces of ash on her hands and cheek. “Uhh…” She finally glanced over at her blackened hand, her face reddening as the severity of her misdemeanor sunk in. She had really screwed up this time, what with how careless she had been. What sort of mage could she consider herself having broken the one and only rule given to followers of the art in such an idiotic manner?? An even better question… How should she deal with the unenlightened stranger still standing there! He wasn’t even making any contributions to fixing this mess!
