This was a writing exercise i wanted to work on to get me warmed up for a longer thing I'm writing. This also is connected to another more complex RP story that some of my friends and I have going :>

Hugo sits behind the counter of the inn, cleaning miscellaneous dishes in boredom.

Her boredom was soon interrupted when a hooded figure enters the empty inn.

The hooded figure seemed to be of short stature, but still taller than the ever short Hugo.

Hugo gives the figure a quick bow and then introduces herself.

The figure bobs their head in response to Hugo’s introduction.

The figure then removes their cloak and drapes it over a chair before sitting down.

Hugo was slightly taken aback at the face of this person.

It was a girl no more than nineteen.

Though young, she had the dark wise eyes of someone who’d seen many things in their time.

She had what seemed to be small glowing star-like freckles on her dark skin, and a strange scar reminiscent of glass cracks that stretched up her neck and onto her face.

Hugo slightly raises her brow. This girl was definitely not from here.

“What can I get for you?”

Hugo asks her, turning around to put away the dishes she’d previously cleaned.

The girl hums as she thinks of what to buy.

“Bread please, and something nonalcoholic to drink”

The girl says, smiling warmly at Hugo.

Hugo grimaces at the word nonalcoholic.

“Apologies, but this IS a bar. The only nonalcoholic thing I’ve got to serve is water, and the water isn’t very good”

The girl’s shoulders slump slightly when she hears this. She runs her hand through her pale hair as she thinks.

“Alright then, wine..?”

She says, but it seems to be more of her asking if ‘wine was an alright substitute for water’

Hugo nods and hurries to the back room.

While she waits for Hugo to return, the girl drums her fingers on the counter and looks around the strange room.

“Such strange things and people here..”

She whispers to herself.

“From what you just said, I’m guessing you’re not from around here?“

Hugo had somehow snuck up on the girl, wine bottle in one hand, a loaf of bread in the other.

The girl jumps when she hears Hugo’s voice. Hugo hands the girl the bread and pours her wine.

She holds the wine glass out to the girl, a brow raised as she waits for her question to be answered.

The girl takes the wine glass sheepishly.

“No, I’m not from around here”

She takes a sip of the wine, makes a sour face, opens her mouth, and lets the wine pour back into the glass.

“Then where, might I ask are you from?”

Hugo inquires, holding back a snort of laughter.

The girl wipes the remaining wine from her mouth with the back of her hand.

“I’m—“

She freezes for a moment, realizing she hadn’t come up with a place to be ‘from’ yet.

So she decided to go with her most recent location.

“—from a lighthouse…in the middle of nowhere”

Hugo nods, knowing that she was probably lying.

“Very well then,”

Hugo holds her palm out to the girl for payment.

The girl looks at Hugo’s hand in confusion and hands her the wine glass.

Hugo groans annoyed.

“Payment.”

The girl’s eyes widen with the realization. She then produces a small pouch from her pocket and hands Hugo a gold coin like a teenager using their credit card for the first time.

“Will this be enough..?”

Hugo quickly snatches the coin.

“Yes, yes. Now, is there anything else I can get for you? Or was this all you needed?”

Hugo asks the girl, stashing the coin in her bodice.

The girl shakes her head and stands.

“No, I got everything I need from you”

She begins to walk away but pauses with a recollection of something she had to do.

She turns back towards Hugo.

“Actually, have you seen a pale, dark-haired woman? Gold eyes, tall, a scar right about here” she points to a spot on her chin on the right side of her face.

Hugo recognized that description but doesn’t quite know from where. So she simply responded with a “no”

The girl nods and walks over to the door.

“Well, thank you for your service”

She opens the inn door and steps out into the bright morning outdoors.

Hugo’s jaw dropped as she watched the girl disappear into nothing when the light hit her skin.

Then the inn door then closed, leaving Hugo flabbergasted.
