At age 27, he meets Lydia- one of the first caring and accepting people in his life. He slowly grows attracted to her, and eventually falls in love. However, he feels like he should avoid her because he puts on the facade of being human and having a normal life. Soon enough, they start dating and everything is good. Devin hides the truth from her out of an extreme fear for abandonment. Then several weeks pass and in the peak of their relationship, he runs out of weekly supplements.

Devin realizes that if he doesn't find more within a week, he'll quickly start to grow and turn back into the scary giant he used to be. While he puts in requests at the pharmacy for more medicine, he puts Lydia on hold and avoids seeing her for six full days. She feels like he has abandoned her in some way and that she is at fault for his avoiding her. Especially since they had set up a big date the day before. Devin tries to reassure her that everything is fine and he's just caught some minor contagious sickness. But after five days, he still hadn't gotten more pills and was already close to being fully transformed. On the seventh day, Lydia saw through his lies and was fed up with his excuses. She went to his house and demanded to see him or she'd end their relationship. When she refused to "talk about it," Devin concluded that she'd leave either way, so he opened the door and revealed himself.

At first glance, she didn't recognize him, his eyes were bright red, his hair was long, and most noticeable of all, he was much bigger. His neck was against the ceiling and he had to stand back just to see her through the doorway. She confronted him in a furious fit, demanding to be informed on what happened. He couldn't explain it immediately, as it wasn't simple. But really the only reason Lydia had gotten so angry was because she was in fear of his well-being. Eventually she calmed down and they sat down to talk about it.

Even though she hates to be lied to, Lydia forgives him and eventually grows to accept him for his strange new appearance. Hearing his story, she felt awful about forcing him to come out and getting so worked up about the entire thing. Devin didn't mind and was just happy to know that she wouldn't be leaving.

After this, they spend more bonding time with their all new sense of trust. Devin stops requesting for the drug and feels as though he doesn't need it. Over time, they reveal more things about themselves to each other through their strong trust. He is very satisfied and after every truth is told, proposes to Lydia. They get married and become husband and wife. But over this time while they bonded, Devin only got stronger and rougher in everything he did. This caused him to sometimes grab or pull too hard and cause her minor injury. Noticing the damage of his strength, he declares that he will continue taking the drug to assure that he doesn't hurt her anymore. Lydia advised against this because she disliked the harsh symptoms and general nature of it, but Devin insisted out of concern for her own safety.

He finds more of the drug, and he lives happily ever after with his wife. The love they develop for each other is somehow stronger, and more special than a bond two humans could ever achieve. About a year later, she encourages him to practice being gentle in his normal form so he wouldn't have to bear the side effects of the drug. He reluctantly agrees to try and practice, and does so by engaging in normal interactions with a human-like dummy. Its weight and structure was like that of a male human's, with artificial bones of the same density as humans'. Even so, the tests weren't easy for him. Almost every time, one of the dummy's limbs were twisted, pulled off, or broken just from simple actions like hugging or hand-holding. By this time, he was already three times stronger than he was when he met Lydia. It took him hours before he could hold the dummy's hand without crushing it. He practically had to touch it as softly as a feather.

After he had enough reverse training, he could finally be around Lydia and touch her without causing harm. The possibility of her getting seriously injured was, by all means, still there, but it was up to Devin to remain gentle and protect her.

Whenever Devin is about to go anywhere in public, he must plan ahead of time and shrink himself down a few days early. Surely an ordinary grocery store clerk would be intimidated by an eight-foot tall giant asking where the produce aisle is. So why not be a little shorter- a more human height of six and a half feet. At least he could fit through most doorways then.

But whenever he's not around people, he's living freely with his wife who happens to be three feet shorter than him. Lydia has no problem with this. That is, until he takes all the room on the bed and has to sleep on the couch. Or when the entire refrigerator is empty because he constantly requires food. Besides that, wearing his clothes is nice since they're always warm, having a bigger stronger arms to sleep under. Best of all, there's much more of him to love. Devin, on the other hand, has no cons regarding their size difference and has wanted to be his full self around her for a long time. He used to think of it as a cursed thing, forbidden to reveal to humans, but now he likes being able to protect her with every ounce of his true strength, and cherishes the bond they have together. Now that there is nothing to hide, he feels much better. It almost makes him forget about his past.

There are moments where Devin lets his past get to him and affect him in displeasing ways. But this is a rare occasion when Lydia is in his presence. He knows that he can talk to her about, and trust her with anything, and she will never abandon him. Through all of his troubles, she will only hold him tighter.
