Rumors of the one you love dating someone else is something no one ever wants to hear. When it happens to Becca, all she wants to do is relax at the Mostro Lounge and be by herself for a while. That is, until someone who has apparently always taken an interest in the sophomore, shows up at the lounge that same night. And apparently wants to marry her.

Prologue

“Did you hear the rumors about Rook?”

“I know. I never thought he’d be the type to do that even if he is a little weird”

“Same.. I can only imagine how Becca feels”

Hearing a couple of students talking about the rumors yet again, Becca set her drink down and tried as hard as she could to cover her ears. She knew it was a risk coming here but the rumors being amplified and the pitiful looks being sent her way were way too much for the sophomore.

Normally, Becca never thought much about the rumors but this time, they involved someone she cared about. Rook. The two weren’t dating for long but the rumors of him essentially dating someone else. They hurt. Thinking about it made Becca wanna cry but she forced herself to not cry and she was just grateful the teachers understood and let her have classes late at night instead of the usual time.

Moments later, Becca heard shouting and she snapped out of thoughts, glancing to her right to notice the same students talking over yelling at someone. She wanted to say something but Becca instead sipped her drink and silently watched the scene, wracking her brain to figure out why the person they were yelling at looked so familiar.

“You alright?” Flinching and nearly spilling her drink, Becca noticed her view being blocked and looked up. As soon as she made eye contact with the person in front of her, her brain quickly started to remember why they looked familiar. In front of her was Vaness, one of the Octavinelle second years and one that hadn’t taken long for Becca to get close to, especially when he somehow seemed to know her like the back of her hand.

Smiling at the fellow second year and nodding, she was about to gesture for him to sit down when said second year held a hand out to her, acting like he was helping her out of her seat, which confused her at first. Noticing a grin on his face, Becca started to grow a little nervous but the mix of Vaness’ voice and how he was rubbing the back of her hand with his thumb relaxed her. Perhaps a bit too much.

“Why don’t we get some fresh air?”

“..yeah..”

Author's Notes

Just a mini heads-up but I'll be putting chapter warnings in the author notes. If a chapter has anything that needs to have a warning, it'll be in the "before the chapter actually starts" author notes. (Also the story is inspired by TWST's ghost/phantom bride event thingy though I only stole the general concept and not much else)
