Chapter 1

‘How does your character think of their parents? What do they hate and love about them? What influence - literal or imagined - did they have?

Jack simply doesn’t think of his parents, there’s no love or hate in his heart for them so he says but one thing they DID teach him is that he can’t rely on anyone on this planet. He hated that they groveled and threw away any pride they had with nothing to show for it and decided he would never be like that. If he was going to die it would be with his head held high (and then he did.)

Siblings? Who do they like? Why? What do they despise about their siblings? What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient?

Only child. His parents could barely afford one kid, siblings were out of the question. Jack's parents were lenient in that they didn’t mind their child enough in general. He was never really punished but never coddled either.

Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered?

Definitely not. Jack often disappeared onto the streets of Tharsis for hours, sometimes even days, without his parents freaking out over it. As long as he came back with all his limbs still attached they were fine with it.

Did they feel rejection or affection as a child?

Neither really. It was clear that Jack's parents never hated him, he was just never their first priority. They did their best to provide the basic necessities but nothing much more than that. It wasn’t out of spite though, it was all a result of a desperate struggle to stay afloat.

What was the economic status of their family?

A constant struggle to get by. Running a restaurant on a corner where the rosewoods and shipping company (and occasionally, the aviary) liked to tussle led to an often trashed building, few customers, and with Jack's parents never quite being able to curry favor with either side, little to no protection or compensation. The irony of trying to run a restaurant and not being able to put food on the table consistently still gets a laugh out of Jack sometimes.

How does your character feel about religion?

Completely and utterly indifferent. If there’s a god out there, they’re not watching out for Jack.

|s your character street-smart, book-smart, intelligent, intellectual, slow-witted?

Both book AND street smarts, but his anger and inability to trust anybody can cloud his judgment.

‘What does your character do for a living? How do they see their profession? What do they like about it? Dislike?

Career criminal, stealing, killing, the type to take any job if the pay is good. Jack *likes* being a criminal too, he’s not bound by the law, a shitty 9-5 schedule, and there’s no loyalty among the thieves that make of the aviary. Of course he wouldn’t mind less life threatening jobs but Tharsis boys make do.

‘Who are their friends? Lovers? Type’ or ‘ideal’ partner? What do they want from a partner? What do they think and feel of sex?

What the fuck is a friend? 7 evil exes apparently. Jack wants a partner who is useful, competent, but not aggressive or seems the type to quickly turn traitor so they’ll probably also have some sort of obvious gain by being in a relationship with him. If there’s any one person Jack will ever put the slightest modicum of trust in it’ll be his S/O, they put the “partner” in partners in crime. They’ll also probably have a masochistic streak. Jack likes sex a normal amount, it’s the one of the few services he’ll pay for if he cant get lucky at a bar or space tinder.

How easy or difficult is it for your character to say“I love you" Can they say it without meaning it?

Jack would almost never under any circumstance say the L word. If he’s under some extreme circumstances like a seduction mission or something sure he can lie about it, but he’s not the type to show affection even if it’s fake. If he ever DOES say it he’s not playing around.

What is your character's weaknesses? Hubris? Pride? Controlling?

Anger. Issues. Also trust issues and general cowardice. The rabbit ears are like a karmic punishment for always acting like a goddamn cornered animal. Almost has a weird persecution complex the way he’s convinced everything and everyone is indifferent to him at best and out for his blood at worst.

‘Are they holding on to something in the past? Can he or she forgive?

Jack holds grudges like nobody’s business and he almost never forgives. He’s not holding onto anything particular in his past because he’s chosen to leave all of it behind but anyone who wrongs him now can expect immediate retribution.

How does your character react to stress situations? Defensively? Aggressively? Evasively?

Aggressive 100% of the time, he’ll fight you on anything if you press him hard enough and often tries to take matters into his own hands.

Do they drink? Take drugs? What about their health?

Drinks regularly but never gets truly smashed since he doesn’t trust anyone enough to help get him home in one piece. Smokes occasionally but only when he really needs to wind down. Doesn’t take particularly good care of himself but he’s functioning.

Do they like to suffer? Like to see other people suffering?

Absolutely hates suffering and absolutely loves inflicting it on other people, makes him feel better about himself, like he’s strong even though deep down he’s a scared and bitter husk of a man.

‘What does your character want most? What do they need really badly, compulsively? What are they willing to do, to sacrifice, to obtain?

To feel powerful and in control. He wants to make people cower in fear because it’s the only way he can assure himself he’s safe. He won’t sacrifice much for it though. The guy’s not afraid to turn tail from losing battles and doesn’t take any particular measures towards getting stronger. Jack could probably accomplish a lot if he wasn’t such a sniveling coward deep down.

|s your character tall? Short? What about size? Weight? Posture? How do they feel about their physical body?

Short but lean and slightly muscular. Absolutely loving the free gender confirmation surgery he got and feels pretty good strutting around in his new body. Shorter post revival because ayyy that 6 inches had to go somewhere

Has your character ever fired a gun? If so, what was their first target? Absolutely, the first thing he ever shot was a member of the shipping company who he got into a scrap with. The first bullet missed anything vital but the lethal blow was delivered as they fled from him.

|s your character's current socioeconomic status different than it was when they were growing up?

Yep! Though not by any legal means Jacks got a decent amount of cash nowadays (maybe a bit less so working under booker and boss lady but still certainly more than what he had growing up.)

In What ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?

Jack doesn’t really compare himself to others, what they get up to is their business and what he does is his.

How does your character normally deal with confrontation

Generally avoids conflict unless it’ll impact him in some way in which case he’ll bite anyones head off if they try to argue they do things differently from what he wants.
