apparently, Beowulf's married to or at least mated with a goddess. wolves mate for life (and so do ravens too). deities are more finicky than that. however, it's still loving and kind. both of them are doing their genuine best for each other, even if their best is better on some days than others. they both have very different needs for love and companionship. and sometimes, as a deity, his partner has other things to do. he understands this just fine. he's retired, but he's working class nonetheless. it's not a perfect relationship, but no relationship is.

Beowulf’s heart is bound to his mate’s in life and in death. He’s raising their child right this time! She doesn’t have to guard the village on her own anymore, there’s plenty of people who can guard the village.
