Chapter 1

Dominik looked up as the front door opened and Dick came in. He looked exhausted, the dark bags under his red eyes more pronounced than usual. It was obvious they weren’t makeup this time. “It’s starting to get light out. I was worried you would have to stay in your office again.” He hummed, sipping at the red liquid in his mug.

Dick waved a hand, pulling the blackout curtains on the window shut. “It’s been busy.” He admitted. “Damian tried to assassinate me.” He sighed as he sat, speaking like it was just another day at the office.

“We knew he would.” Dom agreed, offering his mug out of him. “Drink, babe. You need it. I would wager you haven’t been properly taking care of yourself either.”

He accepted the mug, downing it all so quickly that trails of blood dripped down either side of his mouth. He wiped his mouth, giving his boyfriend an innocent look. “It’s not my fault my brothers have kept me too busy.”

He shook his head, taking the mug back from him and going into the kitchen. “Speaking of, how is Jason doing?” He called as he filled the mug once again. “Do you want it warm?”

“Yes please.” He called back, sinking into the cushions of the couch. He hadn’t realized just how worn out he’d become. “He’s still mad at me. But it’s almost back to the normal amount of angry for Jason.” He answered with a soft chuckle. “He’s recovering well. The archer missed his heart but it still did a number on him. Especially since he was still in the process of turning.”

Dominik returned a moment later with the warmed mug and handed it to him. “Yeah. I can only imagine how excruciating a wound like that would be; vampire or not.” He hummed, sitting beside him and cuddling close with his head on his shoulder. “I’m glad he’s doing better though. Josie’s taking care of him?”

He nodded. “Hasn’t left his side.” He confirmed, smiling softly at the thought of their friend. “She hasn't been turned yet though. She keeps insisting that she be allowed to stay human so she can feed him while he recovers.”

Dom chuckled, looking up at him. “That’s my Josie.” He agreed. “I should go see them..” he muttered sadly, tracing circles on Dick’s knee.

“I can’t allow that.” He told him seriously but quickly held up a hand to keep him from protesting. “Jason is still angry with me; you know he’ll still be angry with you since you were working so closely with him for so long after I turned you. And honestly I don’t know where Josephine stands on the whole situation. She only cares about making sure Jason is okay at this point. If you go to see them you’re likely just to irritate Jason and make his healing process slower. Therefore making Josie’s job harder.”

“Dick..” Dom frowned, sitting up to look at him. “He’s going to be even more angry with me if I don’t go check on them. Especially if I don’t even see Josie. They’re my best friends. I don’t care how mad they are at me. I have to at least let them know that their Dom isn’t completely gone.”

The vampire king sighed, looking down at his mug of blood as he swirled it around in thought. “Okay.” He answered; he couldn’t tell Dominik no again. “But you have to make an appointment for it, you can’t just show up unannounced and expect it to go fine. Let me talk to Josie first and let her know. She can calm Jason down enough before you get there.”

He nodded his understanding, melting back against him again. “That makes sense.” He agreed. “I just… I miss them.” He admitted. “I miss you. I’ve been so alone since all of this started. And I don’t blame you. I know you’re busy and what you’re doing is important. I just… wish it was a little different.”

Dick frowned, setting the mug down on the side table and pulling Dom into his lap. He played with his dark hair idly. “I know what you mean.” He answered, a frown on his own lips. “It’s been lonely for me too… sometimes I wish I hadn’t been given this gift..” he admitted for the first time since he’d been turned.

Dominik frowned, smacking his chest lightly. “Don’t say that. This is for the best.” He told him seriously. “I.. I let you turn me without question. I haven’t regretted it once. We’ll have eternity together.”

Dick smiled softly, drawing him in against him and wrapping his arms around him. “You’re right. You’re always right, Dominik.” He assured him, leaning up to kiss him softly. “Let’s just relax for the rest of the morning before we get some sleep, yeah?” He asked. “And then tomorrow you can come in and see Jason and Josie.”

He nodded, curling up against him in his lap. “Let’s watch JoJo… like old times.” He smiled softly as he grabbed the remote and turned on the show. He’d missed just mindlessly watching anime with Dick. And he’d never admit it but he missed the way things had been. It had been simpler. They’d both been happier.
