Awakened Ashes went though a gentle refresh that erased some character interaction. I am keeping this log here for nostalgic reasons. Information on Durion's adventures in the Awakened Ashes V.1 campaign. Includes specific notes about backstory and character interactions for that campaign. (Before the Reset)

Relationships

Friends:

  • Chip: A Tiefling with excellent fighting skills, and a fiery spirit. Chip is quick to learn and Durion enjoys teaching him some tricks he's learned in life. Through their time together Chip admitted his feeling towards Durion. While taken back, Durion can not deny that the young Tiefling has become someone that he cares and relies on. He sees him as a loyal partner and wants to keep him close. However, still struggles with the idea of a relationship. For now they are 'Partners in Crime' and stick pretty close to each other.
    • "I want to make him happy. I will outlive him by many life times, but if I can make sure he smiles. It's worth it."
  • Ciena: A cleric woman, with a hidden power. Durion feels like he can trust Ciena. They share common ties in that they can't be open about what they are to the world. What she lacks in smarts she makes up for in teamwork, and acts like the glue that holds everyone together. Ciena has earned Durion's trust and respect. While getting to know her more came with many uncomfortable situations, she has made a place in Durion's heart as a friend.
    • "She's open about everything, and I mean Everything. At least I know she'll never lie to me."
  • Zek (Mount): An Omukade that Durion found while on a job for the Collector. After purchasing papers for proof of ownership, Durion has been able to train him. Durion was originally drawn to Zek because of his similarities to Spiders. While Zek risks Durion's usual 'lay low' mannerisms, he also has proven to be a great asset to the team. He has found a great love for the creature. Upon returning from Lassel / Bazundush he found that Zek had grown. Reuniting with his beloved pet was thrilling to say the least. Durion now looks for a way to better transport him without drawing too much attention.
  • Gnar: A hard-headed Dwarf, that Durion came to call friend. Durion started his journey with Gnar and saw him as the stubborn Dwarf with a big mouth. However, Gnar soon became one of Durion's greatest allies and friends. Their relationship was an odd back and forth of banter at times, but it was good to have a familiar face in a job with so much uncertainty. After getting back from their second diamond retrieval, Gnar was let go by the Collector and went to pursue a different path. The departure left Durion feeling hollow. He hopes to see Gnar again in the future, but is disappointed that he will no longer be working with him.
    • "His hubris almost got me killed multiple times. However, from the very beginning, even with knowing what I was, he excepted me."
  • Dust: A Tiefling magic user that has a knack for geology. So far Dust seems laid back and here to have a good time. She is very passionate about her craft which is respectable. Durion hasn’t had many chances to talk to her, but she is a good asset to the team. She seems to lean towards the more chaotic way of life. This makes Durion a little uneasy. However, she is also quick to try things for knowledge that Durion wouldn't risk himself.
    • "Her enthusiasm for learning is almost scary. I'm glad she's on our side when she wields her knowledge."

Acquaintances:

  • Tealights: A big gold Dragonborn with an even bigger heart. Durion respects Tealights for what he is trying to do. It seems like he has a lot going against him, but he makes the most of it. He's been nothing but nice so far.
  • Naeris: An Drow ex-spy working a forge in Lasselle. Durion never got a bad feeling from him and they share a similar respect for each other. He has a good craft and has been very helpful in their quest to take down the Commodore. With the promise of future interactions, Durion is glad to have met Naeris and looks forward to seeing him again.

Enemies:

  • Other Drows (Unknown): Durion is unsure if his disappearance from the Underdark prompted any questions about his loyalty to Lolth or his hive, or if people just thought he died. To his knowledge he left without his faith being questioned. However, the fear of other Drow being on the surface for their own selfish gain weighs on Durion. He is constantly keeping his eyes open because if they learn about him before he learns about them, it could be trouble.
  • Blue Talon: This group of cultists keeps popping up on the group's job runs. Durion finds them annoying but isn't sure how much of a threat they are. Their goal seems to be to resurrect their God. Durion doubts that they have seen the last of their ilk.
  • Commodore Dero (Deceased): A corrupt, vile Elven man that worked under a Duke Varren from Earendil. Durion had a great disdain for this man. The moment he heard about him he wanted nothing more than to slip back into his old roots and take him out. Dealing with him almost cost Durion his own life, and the lives of his companions. He was more than pleased that Gnar dealt the final blow to such a horrid creature. However, he knows this is not the end and their encounter with him may haunt them in the future.
  • Leonidas: A Halfling Commander that followed under Dero. At first didn't seem like much to worry about, but his escape from capture was something of horror. It seems like there was more to the commander than met the eye and he may be more dangerous than anticipated.
  • Duke Varren: An over all unknown entity to Durion. Dust seems to know the man from her past dealings. Dero worked under him, and if servant is anything like master, he is a danger to us all.

Organizations:

  • Thieves Guild: Durion took up work for the Thieves Guild while on the surface. It was the best way for him to get money and keep a low profile.

Storyline/ History/ Background

Durion was given to the Assassin’s Guild when he was a child. This was a move made by his mother to better herself in society since she had born a son. Durion does not remember his mother’s face well, but always would remember the necklace she wore. A silver orb with etchings of a spider’s web.

From that day on he was raised and trained to be an assassin for nobility to hire. During that time Durion didn’t question much. He was given what he needed and survived. Proving himself to be a promising assassin, he was sent on missions and completed tasks. Numerous marks were taken out by Durion’s hand. The years passed as a haze of missions and orders. Sometimes, he would question how the society functioned and if it was really productive, but he found that he was alone in this thought process. In the end he would always return to the normal grind of the day to day.

One day, Durion was sent on a mission to take out a woman of notoriety by a different noble house. It was a mission like any other. Upon entering her room something caught his eye. Hanging on the vanity was a silver orb necklace with etchings of spider webs. The same necklace his mother wore. It was at that moment Durion began to question everything. If the system he grew up with was supposed to work, why was he now ordered to kill someone that followed the system to advance.

Durion took the necklace and fled. He never even checked to see if the target was who he thought it was. He didn’t want to know. Even if it was his mother, would he have even recognized her? In the end, he couldn’t bring himself to finish this mission, and returning to the guild would cost him everything. He didn’t want to be a part of a society that fed on itself to survive any more. How could this be Lolth’s way? How could this endless bloodshed bring about their prosperity?

He was 98 years old when he left. Abandoned his old name, and cause. He wandered the tunnels of the Underdark for a time. Eventually coming across an exit to the surface. Everything about the surface world was over stimulating at first. Durion took a long time living in the cave entrance to acclimate and work up the courage to venture out. He knew eventually he would be found by scouts in the tunnels and entrance ways, so the only other option was a new vast world he didn't even know.

Eventually happening upon a town called Basil, he stuck to the shadows and watched how people live their lives and interacted. Taking what he learned he tried to mimic it to fit in to a local bar, but was swiftly ran out of town. The next town he happened across was Buckle, but he had similar results. Each time nearly escaping with his life. Tired and frustrated, Durion found his way to a large city called Mytilus. However, he has wised up now and stuck closely to the shadows and interacted with no one.

Doubt was creeping into Durion's mind about his chances at survival, but at this point he was low on food, funds, and energy. He collapsed in an ally way from exhaustion. Late into the night, he was arisen by a nudge and came to to see a small figure draped in a cloak looking at him, dagger drawn. The figure jumped back seeing him, seeming to be just as startled as he was. At dagger point the figure questioned Durion. Not having much of another choice, he complied. After a while the tension between the two seemed to ease as the figure offered him a place to stay for the night.

Uncertain, but downtrodden, he accepted. They took him to an inn and got him food and a room. While he got stares from other patrons, no one bothered him like the last towns. The next day a female brown-orange haired Halfling met him at his room in the inn. Her name was Dartha, the one from the ally. She offered him an opportunity for work if he could be useful. Even more uncertain, he accepted. He didn't really have many other options and work would make him at the very least money.

Over time Dartha became Durion's first friend and family. She taught him about the surface, and acted as his handler when accepting jobs. He even got an in with the Thieves' Guild to make extra coin when he could. Durion even ended up renting her attic room while he lived in Mytilus. Never did he take any jobs relating to assassination. He wanted to leave that in the past as much as he could.

---

Durion became more accustom to life on the surface over the years. The other guild members had taken to calling him by is current name, 'Durion', or 'Dark Elf'. He adopted the name over time, as it is what everyone else already called him. One day, Dartha gifted him with a mask that made it possible for him to see in the sunlight. Saying that he should be able to see everything the surface had to offer. This life went on for about 18 years. Until one day Durion ran into a street urchin, named Chip. Upon meeting, Chip stole Durion's necklace and made off with it. After hunting him down and retrieving it, Chip began to stick to Durion like glue. Eventually convincing him to mentor him. Begrudgingly, Durion agreed and Chip became his partner in crime for about 2 years.

One day- (Insert Cieana's Meeting here)

Together they ended up taking a job that led them out of Mytilus and through different lands. On the way they also gained Gnar and Dust as adventuring partners. During one of their adventures, Durion tamed an Omukade, named (INSERT NAME HERE), who became an essential part of the group's travel. After some time Chip suddenly began to have visions of in past that led him and the group towards Lasselle.

In Lasselle they were met with a twisted Commodore named Dero, and Chip's adoptive father, Tealights. They helped to liberate the town from Dero's control. During one of the missions Durion almost lost him life, but was saved by Chip and Ciana in the nick of time. In the end the final blow to the Commodore was dealt by Gnar. As the Commodore died he shattered away leaving a diamond with red streaks inside it. Gnar identified it as a Blood Diamond. Something he had been searching for for a long time. When he touched it it sent out a magical pulse. Thinking it was tied to Chip's past, the diamond was given to him.

After the grueling battle, Gnar and Dust decided to leave the group to pursue their own ventures. The battle that had been won was a hefty toll for the travelers. Even Durion worried for the treat of war and assassins to come after the fall of the Commodore. (CONTINUE WITH MORE INFO)
