Doūmak put on some festive music to work to as he grabbed the two matching rectangular glass dishes and set them on the counter, then proceeded to grab the various ingredients that he would need in order to make his favorite dish. A dish that he was making to share. A favorite of his for fall harvest potlucks ever since he was a child.

The Siskin Candied Yams.

He grabbed the can opener and got to work cutting the four cans of yams open, once they were, he dumped an even amount of their contents into both dishes.

Next, Doūmak grabbed the cans of crushed pineapple from nearby on the counter, grabbing the pull tabs, he peeled back the lids to open them up slightly so as to pour the juices out into cups (which he and his husband Amor would probably end up drinking).

He then distributed their contents between the two dishes evenly before opening up the bag of brown sugar.

Doūmak generously sprinkled the brown sugar on top of the yams and crushed pineapple for both dishes as it would all end up being mixed together.

Once he had poured a sufficient amount into both, he grabbed the potato masher and started mashing the yams in the dishes to both mix and mash the contents together until their consistency and mix was perfect.

It was a lot of work and his arms became quite tired from doing this part.

He was about to pause and ask for help when he felt his husband Amor come up from behind, wrapping his arms around him before giving him an affectionate kiss on the cheek.

“Making your family’s famous candied yams,” he guessed, rightly, “want some help?”

“Please?”

“Of course,” Amor replied, giving Doūmak a quick kiss on the lips before grabbing an apron and easily picking up where Doūmak had left off on the second dish.

While he worked on that, Doūmak preheated the oven and prepared the timers.

Amor quickly finished mixing and mashing the dish and they both relaxed for a bit, drinking from the glasses that Doūmak had poured the pineapple juice into.

They didn’t have to wait very long for the oven to finish preheating and as soon as it indicated that it was ready, Doūmak leapt to grab one of the dishes and put it in.

Once he had slid it inside, Amor carefully handed him the next one, which Doūmak slid beside the other while Amor started the timers.

From there, they just had to wait until the timers went off before bringing the dishes out and laying down the large marshmallows on top of the dishes and popping them back in to melt the marshmallows a little and roast the tops a beautiful golden brown.

As always, this dish made the house smell positively delightful. A scent that was among one of Doūmak’s top scents and one which always, without fail, got the kids scrambling out of their bedrooms to come eat.

Once the timers went off, Doūmak and Amor both grabbed oven mitts and brought out the dishes, setting them on the protected counter top to let them cool before taking them to the potluck.

Doūmak had no doubt in his mind that there would be no leftovers by the end of the potluck. Even if no one else from the neighborhood or kingdom ate them, he knew his family would.
