Making Friends

The small blue Sprout had only been unearthed for a few days, and had enjoyed every moment of it. While the sun was nice to lay in and soak up the warm rays, he also enjoyed the quiet of the night with various insects chirping away as the moon and stars danced across the sky in their slow march. Gerard liked how soft everything looked at night without the harsh light from the sun glaring down, it made everything seem more approachable and relaxed.

That’s why Gerard was so shocked when a large form laid down right next to him. He hadn’t even heard someone approaching, much less someone so big compared to the Sprout. His red eyes grew wide and looked over at the newest member of the stargazing party.

“Hello??”

The cream colored mass of fur and what Gerard could only assume was muscle stirred before a brown nose appeared barely an inch from his own red one. “’llo,” the newcomer said. The peach shaped horns gave away that the stranger was most likely a Pouflon, and their big cloven hooves also pointed in that direction as well.

“What uhm…what are you doing?” Gerard asked.

“Oh I dunno…I think looking at stars?” they guessed, their voice trailing of with uncertainty.

Gerard blinked. He wasn’t sure how this Bloom was able to look at much of anything due to the frock of hair that cascaded down over their face. He couldn’t even say for certain if the Pouflon even had eyes to begin with. That could happen, right?

“What’s your name?” he asked, finally relaxing a little bit as the Pouflon curled back up in the newly claimed spot.

“I’m Laurel,” they said, their fluffy ears twitching a little bit as if they were pleased that they had an answer to a question.

“I’m Gerard,” the Sprout replied.

Laurel offered their new friend a big smile and snuggled close to him. The bull wasn’t actually watching stars, even if they could see through their shaggy bangs. But it was nice having someone nearby to talk to.

“What do you like?” Gerard asked simply and looked over again with a small smile creeping onto his muzzle.

“Laying,” Laurel responded just as simply. “And eating.”

Gerard nodded. Wise words from Laurel, as the Sprout also enjoyed laying around and eating food. “I like music,” the sprout said and looked back at the sky.

Laurel let out a happy gasp, “Me too!”

Gerard looked over to his new friend, a small smile on his muzzle, “What kind?”

“Oh anything,” the bull said with a smile peeking out from behind his bangs.

“Normally when Bellacostians say ‘anything’ they don’t actually mean ANYTHING.”

Laurel paused to think for a moment before nodding softly. “Anything,” they said with a small grin.

The dark Ursuki smiled at his friend, relaxing quite a bit. He didn’t think the Pouflon would be one to tell him to stop listening to the “noise” that he enjoyed most like others did.

“Maybe we can hang out tomorrow?” he asked his new friend.
