The tiles of porcelain sounded so lonely under Chello’s heels. Her mind was racing with thoughts of what Somnia had told her, her dearest friend. Her friend she had particular feelings about that felt like they were swallowing her whole. The hallways ahead were as empty as ever, a couple of maids shuffling to the side to make way for their beloved heiress. Did she even like calling herself that at this point? As a child being royalty, a princess, The Heiress was all she could have ever imagined. The jewels, the glamour, the praise! Not too long ago she adored it all, but now it left a sour taste in her mouth and throat.

She stops walking and puts her hand to her mouth while deep in thought. The silk gloves on her arms felt…dirty. She felt dirty. Her time on the surface these last few months had opened her eyes to the horrors of the world, her world. One she was meant to lead with an iron fist and keep in order. It wasn’t right. She closes her eyes and grimaces, the things she’s seen…it wasn’t fair. And so many continued doing bad things in her name, the bile rises in her throat. She’s going to be sick if she keeps thinking about it. Could she even say she was a good person? Did she even fucking deserve to call herself that?

Suddenly she was yanked out of her thoughts and pulled back into someone else’s arms. Her gaze snapped towards the person who had grabbed her- It was her matesprit. She felt her stomach drop. Violet eyes met Fuchsia, and Chello couldn’t tear her gaze away from him.

“S-Scyphr…” She was trying to keep her composure, but she wasn’t exactly sure how. So she simply pushes herself away from them. Her stare meets the floor tile for the millionth time this week.

“Where have you been? Chello, it’s been days.” She can hear him take a step closer “Every time I’ve tried to come see you I’ve been sent away? What’s going on?” The concern drips from his tone, she's sure she would see it in their expression if she chose to look at them.

“A lot…A lot is going on.” She hopes it will be enough to stop them in their tracks, but it doesn’t. He just gets closer to her. Their hand slips under her chin and gently pulls her to face them.

“Princess… you know you can always talk to me.” She feels her heart twist and she suddenly shoves Scyphr away from her. Eyes wide and trembling. The shock of the sudden rejection is etched into his face, “Chello?”

“D-don’t touch me.” It hurts to say, She loves him more than anything but she knows that definitively Scyphr is not a good person.

Their gaze bores into her. He quickly pulls himself back together and approaches her again. This time with a confused smile, “C’mon Chello it’s just me. There’s no reason to act like this…”

She can feel tears well up in her eyes. Gog, not now. Don’t cry right now Chello, keep it together. She takes a breath so deep it rattles her ribcage before her gaze hardens as she stares at the troll in front of her. “That’s the problem. It’s you.” “What?” Chello shuffles away from Scyphr as he questions her. “This has to do with that fucking Indigo blood, doesn’t it.” She winces at the growl in his voice. Scyphr puts his hands to his face before tossing them out towards his matesprit, “Chello I don’t know what she's fucking telling you but she’s warping your mind on things! You’re a Fuchsia! She’s below you, there's no reason to engage with scum-” Chello’s palm connects with Scyphr’s face.

She stares at her own hand in shock and then back to her matesprit, “I…I…Don’t talk about her like that.” Tears began to spill over. She couldn’t believe that she just hit him. She curls into herself a little, this was all too much.

Scyphr stares back at Chello in shock. Their hand tentatively grazed the spot where she had just slapped them. She had never been the type to get physical even when she was angry, and they had seen her lash out before. “Chello..I–” “Get out.”

The words came out sharp and pointed, tears ran down Chello’s face as she looked at them again. “I said GET OUT.” Her voice reached a shrill level as she gestured her hand towards the hall that led out. “Don’t make me get my guards…” she shakes as the words leave her mouth, her stomach pooling with dread as she watched them stumble backward.

Chello was Scyphr’s matesprit, and yet she was still the Heiress. So he did what she commanded and left. Left her all alone in that empty hallway. The deafening silence was broken by a single sob when she was finally all alone.
