Though there were many days allotted for fun in the sun, today was not one of those days. The streak of almost record-breaking high temperature days had caused the hot air to mix with the cold…but it was about time that there was some rain.

The rumbling thunder in the distance caused Boingo and Vatos to head inside after spending some time putting together skewers and other side items for a fun dinner. They hoisted some plates of food back inside, along with a few bowls with fresh potato salad, macaroni, and fresh cut fruit and mangee salad. Their chatter back and forth only paused when they caught sight of Consus curled up on the couch with the rainbow scarf around his shoulders. His face was barely illuminated by the soft glow emitted from the flickering flames. He seemed uneasy as thunder rumbled across the sky once more.

Vatos gave a soft smile and nudged Boingo before the two browbirds joined the satyr on the couch. The taller bird made himself comfortable and put his arm around Consus before addressing him.

“Aight, what’s on your mind? There’s no book in your hands or nothing. Wanna talk about it?”

Consus only pulled the scarf closer to his chest, avoiding Vatos’ gaze.

“Not really, but I know neither of you will leave me alone if I don’t. I’m just not comfortable with storms, I guess - and it hasn’t exactly been a mentally sound day - stupid, I know.”

Before Vatos could say anything, they were interrupted by a flash of lightning and a strained groan from the painted satyr. Boingo looked at one of the windows as rain started to fall outside, gently pelting the window.

“It ain’t stupid, I get it. Not every day has to be a good one - and not everyone is okay with all the lod sound and light and all that.”

Boingo seemed to lean over and prop his feet up before adding to the conversation.

“Hey, plus we were outside like, all week! We don’t have to do everything together, all the time - it’s not always about running around outside or doing everything together anyways. You make what you want out of summer and we’ll be around. After all, you won’t stop me from doing my stuff, and I won’t stop you from doing yours.”

The painted satyr smiled and leaned against Vatos.

“Mmmph. Yeah, okay. Well, at least for today, do you guys think we could hang out here? On the couch like this?”

The scaled browbird gave a toothy grin and ruffled Consus’ hair.

“Sure - we just made fruit salad too.”

Suddenly, Boingo leapt off the couch as the thunder rumbled once more, only to return with the salad.
“Bottom’s up!”
