Where Were You Last Night?

For my Creative Writing class I had to write a story that began with the line "where were you last night." Here is said story, it is an epilogue to another story I've uploaded her titled "And She Runs."

"Where were you last night?" Honeydew asked as she saw Quailsong stumble back into Camp.

"I, uh, went for a walk." Quailsong replied, the statement seeming to have a question mark at the end. Honeydew eyed her suspiciously. What was Quailsong really doing out there, she wondered. But, despite her suspicions, Honeydew decided to not press the matter any further.

"I just got back from one of the Dawn Patrols; I caught your favorite!" She pushed a large vole towards Quailsong with a paw. Honeydew had expected Quailsong to look more pleased.

"Oh.. thanks. I'm just gonna go lay down or something." Quailsong picked up the vole and went to a different part of the Camp. When she thought Honeydew wasn't looking, she gave the vole to a very thankful Lavendertorrent. This upset Honeydew, but once again she decided to not push it. She knew Quailsong's mental health was in the weeds, but she just didn't know what to actually do about it. Maybe Featherleaf would know.

So she decided that she would go find Featherleaf; he was probably by the Medicine Den. The day prior Ganderacorn had cut one of his paw pads, and Greymint had ordered him to wait a day before walking on it again. And wherever Ganderacorn was, chances were Featherleaf was there as well. Honeydew peeked inside the Medicine Den, seeing a whole group of cats. Greymint was of course in there, as were Ganderacorn and Featherleaf. But Quietmoon and Silkbear were also in there, with Quietmoon's stomach being examined by Greymint. Honeydew wondered what was wrong. Her question was soon answered.

"Well, Quietmoon. Your stomach pains and nausea are completely normal." The pair looked confused.

"What do you mean normal? There has to be something wrong with me!" She said fearfully. Silkbear held her paw.

"What's wrong with her?" He looked as, if not more, concerned than Quietmoon did. Greymint purred.

"It's completely normal, Quietmoon. And it's completely normal because… you're expecting kits!" Quietmoon and Silkbear were both shocked, but seemed to be overjoyed.

"I didn't expect that you would be carrying kits so soon after our Warrior Ceremonies, but this truly is a blessing from StarClan!" Silkbear purred, rubbing his head against his mate's shoulder.

"Congratulations!" Ganderacorn and Featherleaf said in unison. Honeydew tapped on Featherleaf shoulder with a paw.

"Psst, Featherleaf. I need to talk to you alone." Featherleaf turned his head.

"Oh, uh, sure. Ganderacorn, I'll be back." Ganderacorn acknowledged Featherleaf wordlessly as he celebrated with Silkbear, probably excited that he was going to be an uncle.

Honeydew and Featherleaf walked over to the Damp Stones, making sure the Apprentices in the Apprentice Den couldn't hear their conversation. The two sat down.

"So, what's up? Are you okay?" Featherleaf asked this second question because Honeydew had started to tear up.

"I'm worried about Quailsong; she hasn't been herself since that day in the valley! A whole moon has passed and she still hasn't smiled. I want to help her, but I dont know how!" A single tear fell down her cheek.

"I am, too. There's something wrong with her.. besides the obvious." He was referring to Quailsong's leg that had been mauled by a cougar on that fateful day.

"She disappeared early this morning, and came back looking like she wanted to die." Honeydew had a lightbulb moment. Featherleaf seemed to have the same one.

"Wait.. you dont think..?"

"I.. had never even considered that she would.. think about doing that." Honeydew looked even more stressed than she had previously.

"We need to do something about this, Honeydew. I dont think we can just leave her alone anymore." More tears fell down Honeydew's cheeks.

"I know.. I know."
