Going home

Flipping through numerous letters, Wrench kicked his hooves up on a nearby chair as his eyes danced lazily across the many envelopes. Mail day never exciting.

Or at least that was until a shimmering envelope caught his eyes. Pulling it from the pile he found it odd that there was no information other than his own name written on it.

Opening it, he pulled the parchment free, his eyes widening as he read further and further into the letter. It was an invitation to attend an event at the Great Dragon Palace, something he had only heard stories of from back home. The thought of attending the event made his heart race, his eyes lingering on the intricate calligraphy of the letter. The thought of attending such an elegant and enchanting event made his stomach churn.

Further reading planted the seed of bringing along his long-time friend as he was invited along side a plus one. It would be Magnar's first time crossing the portal, would he be willing to take that leap? Surely it wouldn't be the strangest or most dangerous risk the human had taken.

"Wrench, you're turnin' red... You okay? Forget to breathe again?"

The Boisbéni's eyes jumped up to said human. Magnar's bright blue eyes were glued to him as he smiled with a light hearted concern.

"No, just.. Got a letter I didne ever see comin'," he chuckled awkwardly. "From back home."

"Home as in... Scotland or Home?"

"The other side of the magic Magnar... It's from the Great Dragon Palace, a place I grew up hearin' stories of." Wrench smiled. "We've been invited to attend one of their... balls."

The mention of the shape brought a quiet snicker from the Dane. "Well, what're you waitin' for then Ùisdean? I'll go find my best suit." he teased as he threw open the nearest wardrobe.

Wrench chuckled as he watched the other begin rooting around through the clothing. Debating whether or not this had been a good idea.

Several weeks passed before the two found themselves in the heart of the city. Wrench leading Magnar to an unassuming archway. At first glance it seemed completely normal, but as they approached, it began to shimmer with a faint light, it was a security feature it used to keep the mixing of universes to a minimum, only allowing those chosen to activate the gate.

The Boisbéni turned his head to look at Magnar. His eyes glittered in awe as the portal began to show itself to the two.

"Ye ready for this, lad?" Wrench asked, gently elbowing the blonde as they stopped.

Magnar chuckled, the sound riddled with anxiety as his eyes stayed glued to the brightly swirling vortex. "As ready as I'll ever be. Just hoping I don't come out the other side with ears as ridiculous as yours."

Wrench let out a hearty laugh as he clapped the other's back and stepped to the portal. He offered one of his calloused hands to the other. "Don't go gettin' cold feet now, just take a deep breath and take a step through... I'll be on the other side."

Magnar looked between Wrench and his hand before nodding and taking a breath. His eyes squeezed shut as he took Wrench's hand and made his first step forward as they crossed through the threshold of the portal.

The sensation of being pulled through a heavy waterfall caught Magnar off guard as he splashed into the rushing and shallow cold water. The roar and mist of the waterfall behind him adding a disorienting element as he stumbled forward.

A song of swearing left the mouth of the Scotsman as he pulled the disoriented human from the cold water. "It jist had tae be this gate 'eh? For fucks sake." Wrench exclaimed as he shook himself free of as much water as he could.

Magnar wiped his face free of the cold water once he and Wrench had arrived on dry land. His eyes blinking open before he let out a gasp.

"The crew's gonna kill us for not bringin' them along..." was the only thing he could say as he took in the magnificent landscape around him. "This is... unreal."

Wrench rolled his eyes as he rang out his ponytail. "I can guarantee ye it's real. Welcome to my home... How d'ye feel?"

Magnar let out a breathless laugh as he looked around. "Feels like I'm in a game of DnD. The air is so heavy here.."

"Aye. It's the magic. You'll get used to it, dinna fash. Now come on, we've got a bit of a hike ahead of us.

Where the skies met the seas in a breathtaking display of beauty. Wrench lead Magnar down a well worn path towards a settlement on the coast. Were it not for the abundance strange plants and critters. Magnar could have sworn that he had found himself on one of Scotland's many cliffed islands.

His previous description of Dungeons and Dragons hadn't been too far off as they approached a quiet corner of the settlement, coming to the door of a short, thatch roofed hut. "Ain't much, but it's home." Wrench hummed as he unlocked the door and swung it open to allow the other to enter into the blackhouse.

It was a cozy home for being made of stone and grass. It reminded Magnar of the recreated viking homes he had gone into during his school years. The walls were decorated with items and elements from both worlds that Wrench called home. "Make y'erself at home.. You'll need a few days to settle, the first crossin' is never easy." Wrench chuckled as he guided the human to the bed. "We'll go into town tomorrow to grab some food... Get some rest."

"...Stay with me?"
