Ink

A vast collection of various kinds of inks is stored deep in the Witherbloom Archives, so that Marjorie might complete her work. Ink has power, after all. Blood ink is best for wards on books of vellum and leather, and the more specific the blood to the book, the better. She has only gotten so lucky as to use the author’s blood for a ward once, but that book will weather any storm. Otherwise, a beast’s blood with similar nature to the story will do.

There are inks of sap that lend themselves better to wards on the shelves, or books made from the pulp of trees. Of course, the best sap inks will always be the ones that come from the same trees as the tomes. It is always easier the mend together disparate pieces when those pieces come from the same place.

Glittering crystal inks, which have fine shimmery powders mixed in, work best for stone, though Marjorie herself finds them difficult to work with. Stone is so immutable, unlike the fine illusions she works with on a day to day basis. Time eventually renders all things to dust, but that doesn’t very well help her when she’s trying to prevent that outcome.

Any ink, properly made - whether blood or sap or crystal - carries a touch of the Void. That’s why they’re so good for warding off thieving hands, prying eyes, and the relentless pursuit of Time itself. That is why ink is one of her favorite mediums, and why Marjorie grows her collection of bottles in tandem with her collection of books.
