Chapter 1

The young pup was silent as he sat at the edge of the group. Watching all the other pups wrestle and and play with one another. Hidden in the shadows the others didn't see the green pup on the outskirts, which suited him perfectly well. He was small, and thin compared to the other pups. Which had always made him a prime target for them. Always biting and tugging at him, teasing him for his thinness and weakness. Teasing until they always grew bored and wandered off to find someone else to tease.

The green pup rarely ever fought back, just taking and baring it as he always did. Limping off after it was all over to tend to his wounds. His parents weren't much help either. Thinking the fights might give him a thick skin. Make him stronger. 'It'll be good for you in the end.' They had always told him. And so he took it, and stopped putting faith in anyone, even his parents to make it stop. No, he only had himself to rely on.

He backed away from the group without being seen and snuck out into the forest. No one ever paid him any mind, or noticed his comings and goings from the forest. Even though all the pups were always told to stay out, not to go without anyone going with him. No one noticed him enough to tell him not to, and no one missed him enough to realize he was gone. Just gone to lick his wounds and hide somewhere. 'That pup won't last long when his Rite comes.'

He slipped through the forest with ease, quiet and sneaky, knowing exactly where it was he was going. Stopping when he finally reached a field of flowers. Starting to pick several of them and placing them at the little pouch on his hip before sneaking away once more. Coming upon a trap laid with the hunters he caught and packed away the little glider that had been caught in the trap as well before sneaking off once more.

He then found himself before a giant old tree, climbing up the trunk and into a little knot hole big enough for him to slip through and jumping down to the ground. Around him were all manner of containers and trapped little animals, pulling out a little cage he had stolen and shoving the glider into it before going to a little area he used as a makeshift table and pulled out his flowers.

Pulling over a pestle and placing the flowers into it all g with some leaves of some other plant he'd picked from, and started grinding it together into a slight paste. Sweating a little after the effort but satisfied once it was over.

Putting it to the side he grabbed a cage with another small creature, taking a small spoonful of the paste he'd just made and then after a bit of fight forced it into the creatures mouth.

He then put the rest of the paste in a different, smaller pouch to save before he sat cross legged and bent over the little cage, watching the small animal before in silence, never saying a word as he watched and studied.
