Chapter 2

The pups all laughed at him as he panted on the ground, trying to push himself up only for a red and yellow pup to tackle onto him, the female large and strong and biting at his s ruff, making him give a low whimper of pain as she bit down hard enough to bleed. The other pups laughing and cheering, daring the green pup to fight back. Come on, you know you want to. They'll just bite harder until you do! The lot of them suddenly moving to converge on him as well before a familiar voice shouted out at them.

They seperated,  all of them looking up at the black and green alpha male who strode over to them. "That's enough now. Go, all of you! It's time for you to go home." He insisted, one of the pups giving a final nip to his tail before they all of them scattered for home.

The alpha watched for a while before looking back down to the beaten and battered pup, sighing as he knelt down and scooped him up. "I don't know why you don't fight back. You'll never make it if you aren't even willing to fight." He chided. "There are worse toskals out there then them when you go out to your Rite. Ones that will kill you rather then fight and nip at you. The young male didn't bother to say that he didn't consider what the others were doing little nips.

"It doesn't matter Pa. I'll be just fine in the end." He assured his father lightly, licking at his shoulder. He winced a little but didn't argue when his father licked at his shoulder instead.  "I just want you be strong... I want you to live, and make it on your Rite.. I worry for you." He told him lightly, the green pup frowning a little and looking up at his father, sighing a little. "I know that." He told him quietly. "I'll be fine. You'll see. You'll be the only one who sees." He promised his father, starting to wiggle a little. "Put me down. I'm too big to be carried and Ma will complain if she sees." He muttered.

That was certainly true. Where neither of his parents tended to do anything when the others harassed him. His father at least stepped in when he thought it was going too far, and he knew that he at least let it happen in the hope that he would truly get stronger and make it. His mother, however, seemed to care not at all. Always finding fault in him and he could see it in her eyes whenever she looked at him... she wished him dead. She was shamed to have such a weak pup and she didn't want him.

His father sighed and reluctantly put him down so they could walk the rest of the way together. The gaze of his mother was the same as he walked inside. He could see the distaste on her face as she looked to him, even if his father couldn't. A smile coming to her face as she looked to it. "I'm glad to see you. It will be time to eat soon." She told them, the female raising their part of today's hunt.

He sat up a little and smiled brightly towards his mother. "Let me make it Ma." He encouraged lightly, putting his hand out in offer, the female considering for only a second before handing it off to him. He had started to make meals rather often, both for them, and the tribe. They all seeming to think he had one use, and that was being a rather good cook. 'Not that it will save you on your Rite. But we can enjoy it until then.' Words many had said, even his mother. She had stopped trying to hide her distaste quite as much around her mate, and he loved her enough that he would frown, but didn't have the heart to argue with her. Thinking her approach to only be 'tough love.' But he knew better. And when she least expected it, she would realize her mistake... they all would.

But for now, he just gave a pleasant smile as he went and began to prepare the food. His mother would be none the wiser that her upset stomach later in the night would be be because of him…
