Prompt 3: Egg Issues

“Aww, you guys did perfect!” cooed the Glaceon as she returned with a gaggle of friends beside her.

“I’ll make sure you get loads of candy from me--here, hold up your bags!”

As Snowy Storm dumped a good portion of their offerings into Vark and Snocone’s bags, a little bit of a commotion from a stand a bit over rumbled.

“Guess we gotta see what that’s about, too. Thanks a ton, Snowy.”

She waved the two of them off, and Vark and Snocone traipsed over to the hillside hatchery, where little bundles of unhatched Pokémon slept in their neatly-swaddled blankets.

They easily spotted the two making the noise--a Bounsweet and a Seedot (Snocone couldn’t make out which one it was; Seedot were VERY popular around here!), roughhousing where they really shouldn’t be! Vark stepped in next to them, squawking, “Now, now! Take this playfight elsewhere! This is a very delicate spot!”

But whether they’d simply ignored him, or had been spooked by his sharp mein, an egg managed to dislodge as the Bounsweet knocked against it, and in a flash, the Daycare manager could be heard barking out the order: “CHASE THAT EGG!”

Vark was on it faster that Snocone, tossing the bag from his neck and diving down the hill toward it. Before Snocone could so much as complain, he’d rounded back and nabbed her--by the LEGS!!! She was a screeching pike of blue and white ice until Vark gave her his command:

“Cup the egg when we are near it! I can’t catch it, or my talons will break it!’

Snocone stared back, but sense finally righted itself in her, and she nodded. The egg wasn’t very far now, but that detou had let it fall dangerously close to the bluffside, where crags overlooked the empty lands below. At his sign, she clasped her scoop-like hands together, stopping it mid-fall and hugging the egg to her chest.

Vark hefted them back up the mountain, winded without the influence of a dive, and dropped Snocone a little roughly, but safely. She stood, dazed, and walked the egg back to Flannery.

“Oh, heavens, you’ve done it! You saved the egg! Oh, I will be sure to let the parents know when they arrive who their hero is!”

In the meantime, another round of candy was dispensed. Snocone took it a little sheepishly, but happily. She gave the same egg a little pat before Vark and her were back on their way.
