01 - Sardonyx

Sardonyx entered the school with a loathing passion. School. Was. The. End. Of. Life. Itself. Everything about it made her want to puke.

The crowds, the stench, the classes, and the winglet. She knew how they did it. They always put the IceWings in groups with stupid and overexcited annoying dragonets. Maybe for ONCE, IceWings could be respected and left to be in a winglet together. Maybe organize the winglets by tribe... That was a good idea. She sighed. Her friend Icicle decided to escort her here since her mother and father were too busy with "IceWing duties." Gimme a break, she thought, groaning. She wished she could stay in an icy slumber with Icicle forever.

Her best friend surprised her and got her out of her dazing thoughts by coming up behind her in a tight embrace. "Have fun, dude." she chuckled, "Just don't replace me, ok?" She gave Sardonyx a warm smile.

Sardonyx's eyes widened as she shook her head fiercely. "Never," she said and she went inside the warm cabin-like school. She stumbled over to the hard to miss front desk, but before she could say a word to the paper stacking NightWing, she felt a warm body far closer than any of the ones in the crowd. Sure enough, when she turned her icicle filled head in the direction of the colorful body, she saw a RainWing. It was so uncomfortably close she felt like she could puke. He was wiggling his eyebrows at her in a strange way and had a huge amused grin on his face. Her eyes widened and as a natural reaction, she screamed slightly and pushed him away with so much force he tumbled onto the floor, screaming like a maniac.

Sardonyx looked at him, confused. What the heck? was the very first thought in her mind. It had been almost a minute and the poor guy hadn't stopped screaming, drawing complete and utter attention to himself from the whole school.

She came to him and gently poked him. He covered himself with his wings, shaking slightly. "Who are you?" she asked him, and he got up slowly. The crowd died down. She assumed they had all left to go to their dorms, and of course, she was the only one who hadn't because she had to care for this creepy raining that had fear issues. She rolled her eyes just thinking about it.

The RainWing got up. His scales were flashing different colors, but slowly, unlike any other Rainwing. He gulped.

"I'm L-Lemur," he said, "and you?"

Sardonyx sighed. "I'm Sardonyx. Now if you could excuse me, I need to find my winglet. It's embarrassing, standing like this in the middle of an empty hallway."

When she mentioned her name, Lemur sprang to his feet. "Sardonyx!" he exclaimed, clearly excited to have found her. "You're in my winglet! I can show you the way to our dorm."

Noooo... she thought, I hope they are not all as weird as this one.

His comment was answered instantly by a group of five dragons loudly thinking down the hall. A loud talkative MudWing, a fairly quiet SeaWing with a large suitcase, a Sky/NightWing hybrid who seemed uninterested in what was going on and who lurked in the back, a SandWing who was happily nodding with the MudWing, and a very surprised and tired looking NightWing who Sardonyx guessed had to put up with this the longest.

She covered her face, taking a deep sigh. What. Is. This. Some of them were decent, but... How in the world am I going to put up with this? She groaned for the billionth time that day.

The NightWing stepped up, trying to be friendly and giving her a smile. It seemed genuine even though you could tell she just wanted to sleep.

She pointed to each one of the dragons, naming them. "That SeaWing is Emerald, the SandWing is Baileya, the MudWing is Silt, and the Sky/Night hybrid is Bloodclaws. I'm Dreamcatcher," she sighed, "but you can just call me Dream. I'm guessing you're Sardonyx?"

She just nodded her head. Emerald came up to them. "Sorry for the interruption, but I just wanted to show you my collection of precious gems!" he blabbered shyly, fidgeting with the locks on his suitcase. When he finally opened it, there were marvelous and shiny jewels and gems all laid out among the other things he brought with him. Some dragonets were in awe, others just nodded. She just snorted sarcastically.

"You brought gems?"

"Well, yeah," he replied, embarrassed. When Emerald slammed the box shut, Lemur screamed.

"My goodness!" Sardonyx exclaimed, rolling her eyes, "Would you stop being such a scardey-cat?"

"Or what?" Lemur huffed, clearly displeased that she mocked him.

She pushed him off the small cliff nearby.

"That's what."

Even though it wasn't long enough down for Lemur to get hurt, he was screaming as if his life would end that second. Even after an oof when he hit the ground, he kept screaming and Baileya had to go fetch him.

When she came back to higher solid ground where the other five were sitting, she whined.

"Sardonyx, look what you did to him." Lemur sat there shivering and squealing. "Um, maybe we can shake his fears away?" She started shaking him so hard that everything went to a blur and Lemur's eyes rolled back into his head, leaving him limp and unconscious. "Uh.." Baileya put him down slowly. "Heh. I'm gonna go take him to the nurse." She gave a nervous chuckle and dragged him out quickly.

They all looked behind her with pity in their eyes and at Sardonyx with amusement.

"Come on, I want to go back to the dorms," Bloodclaws growled slightly, turning around and heading in the opposite direction they came.

Dream nodded. "All right, we can see who is bunking with who." She also disappeared after Bloodclaws. The other three followed after her and reached a cabin in the middle of the corridor. Bloodclaws and Dream were already inside looking at a letter.

Sardonyx pushed Emerald and Silt to the side and ran to see the letter. She was by bunking with Dream, Silt was with Baileya, and Lemur, Bloodclaws, and Emerald were all bunking together.

She sighed. Her new life was about to begin...
